Well, we know a lot more about this team now. The two key issues: 1) We have the same problem we always have had with high defensive pressure. 2) We don't have an effective point guard. TVO tries to do too much herself, which is fine when she's hot (as in the fourth quarter), but otherwise it leaves us floundering. We need our point guard to effectively involve the other players and TVO has not done so to this point. If we are going to address the first problem she has to accomplish the second. Last year we dealt with problem #1 because we had an experienced, knowledgeable point guard in Aleah. This year hinges on TVO developing her PG skills and not just going 1-on-1 most of the time. Clearly we need further development from Tea too. In general, we need to develop the team's ball-handling skills and recruit better ball-handlers in the future.

Oregon State’s season is going to be determined by turnovers. If you don’t value ball possession, you’ll lose.

Could have been a win! Only two players in double figures and the third player with 5 points is not going to get it done. Inconsistent offensive woes are a concern at this point. Not many scorers on this team, imo. Too much to ask one or two players to carry the load. Olehoffen 25, Jones 14, Corosdale 5 That is it. Please don't talk about moral victories but if any one else remotely scores it would have been a win. Plenty to work on. Ho hum, disappointing day, just sucks! . However, Next game up. Would be tough to justify anything but a loss. This isn't ND of old. It's a 2020/21 team that was 10-10, who was struggling with their roster. A team a "normal" SR team handles at this point in the season. This version has lots of holes right now. I'm not sure if some will be fixable with the current roster. Luckily they are talented and far more so than the bottom half of the Pac12. But, they need to jell pretty quickly and I'm not sure if they're going to face any real talent to test this until Pac12 fires up?!

Nice comeback. Hate to lay it on one player but those 4 straight late FT misses by Ms Brown hurt. On the other hand, her 14 rebounds were essential to us getting back into the game. The 14 rebounds were huge indeed. I had to look at Brown's freshman season for FT% (58%), and with todays 0-4, that is the number for the 2021-22 season, to date...58%. I hope that coach Deven Hunter can work with her (Deven being a fellow 'big'), as D. Hunter raised her FT% from 57% as a freshman to 74% as a senior.

Time for coach to shorten the bench. We need to have lots of minutes with no more than 6-8 players so we can develop some offensive rhythm. Our best athletes need to be on the floor going forward, and they are:
Taylor, Kennedy, TvO, Greta, AJ, Taya (these 6 players get 25-30 minutes every game)
After that it is Tea & Ellie (relief minutes)
After that it is: Emily & Jelena & Noelle, Jovanna (few if any minutes)
Rueck pretty much stuck with Taylor, Kennedy, Greta, AJ, and TvO in Quarter 4, and we started getting a bit of rhythm. Time to shorten the bench.

This whole pre season coach Reuck has stated several times of how deep and talented this team is and how he has so many scoring options on this team. I marked these two games to see this team do what he had bragged about them. I’m a bit concerned after hereing this but it not being seen in at least equally talented game competition.

Chit, And losing a recruit to whoregon today does not help either. We are a FUTBOL school, period. Certainly today put the Beavs on the back burner until any team can win another game. MBB, doubtful anytime soon. WBB, maybe, but we are not NEARLY the team that everyone was expecting coming into this season, a bit disappointing I think. Football, we'll see, they were overmatched today and I think held the quacks on downs just once, at least that is all I remember, their punter was seen sleeping on the sidelines. That doesn't win games at any level. Bad day in Benton county...

Just for fun I looked up the ESPN rankings of the two teams players.
Notre Dame- Starters 11, 20, 100, 8, 18. Bench 16 and 6.
OSU- 25, 43, 26, 20, 32. Bench No one in the top 50.
ie ND has two players on the bench rated more highly than the top rated OSU player.

I think you aren’t recalling Aleah dribbling a ton and our offense stagnant until TvO arrived last year and we were losing lots of games. SR’s offense (against non-zones) has the PG dominate the ball. SR will need TvO to make the same leap Aleah did last year in reading the defense coming off pick and roll situations.

My takes-
The first half the team was stone cold from the 3. If that continues then it will be a long cold winter. I don't think it will.
I counted 4 times players went after steals that then took them out of position so ND was able to get an easy bucket. Last season started that way also. But by the end of the season the Beav's were back down in the bottom 5 in steals/game and the defense was rocking!
The rebounding is kicking butt, now if the guards would play Beav's style of defense they would be able to win even with stone cold shooting.
I'll say it again, Talia is a great player, but the team needs a great PG. But it's not all on her when her teammates are having a hard time figuring out the top and bottom of the ball before they shoot. Can't get an A if the team goes 0 for.
Interior defense has really tightened up.

Aleah only played starting point her Sr season (behind Pivec as Fr and Slocum as So and Jr). Her turnovers per 40 min started out high, dipped as "6th woman" in her So/Jr years and then, not surprisingly, went up a bit as she became starting point guard. That Sr year number was probably inflated a bit due to the abbreviated pre-conference schedule. Aleah Turnovers per 40 minutes played: 2017-18 3.02 (39 TO/515 min) 2018-19 2.16 (48 TO/885 min) 2019-20 2.42 (56 TO/927 min) 2020-21 2.69 (47 TO/698 min) I'd consider that, in context, a good arc of improvement.
