I don't think it's unintentional. We've gone from lining up by heighth (putting SR next to the big), to absent. Remember Marie's dad singing the German national anthem? Remember Ron singing Canada's for Kolbie and Poland's for Joanna? Janessa singing with her brothers? That got the crowd fired up and we took down #2 Oregon a few hours later. I don't think in today's culture you can mandate participation in the national anthem. I think SR's got a few "kneelers" and he'd rather not give them a platform to voice their political opinions. I think he'd rather that they focus on basketball; as would I. What’s a “kneeler?”

Well, prior to your locking it:
Discontinuing the practice of playing the anthem prior to games is one issue; continuing the practice but deliberately having those who represent the university insult that practice is quite another.
I would be basically OK with the former; I find the latter disgusting.

I find it interesting how people like to say what vets believe and don't believe and it's always what they happen to believe.
I know about a dozen vets, and half are furious with "kneelers" and the other half would be willing to lay down their lives to defend protesters right to protest.

I could care less - either way . I am sick- personally, about the way the flag was used to attack our Democracy and the way it is displayed by racists in the back of their pick up trucks .

If the anthem is played while the teams are not yet on the field (or court), I would agree there's no disrespect there at all. That's no different than a fan not having arrived in the stadium yet. If the team is already there, however, and chooses to leave the venue where the anthem is being played rather than participate, that is totally disrespectful. I don't know what else you could call it. The football teams are on the field roughly a half hour before kickoff warming up. Then the team leaves and the band enters for their pregame playing. They are on the field for maybe 15 minutes including the anthem. Then the team's reenter the field for the start of the game. Do you expect the teams to sit on the sidelines for 15 minutes as the band plays their pregame stuff?

And you KNOW this how? 4 wheel drive = racist? Got it...I'm sick about people who spit on us and yelled terrible things getting off planes during Viet Nam, were we racists too?? Maybe honoring the flag in some way honors those of us that have been dishonored by our own country, maybe pulls us together, instead of dividing us, which seems to be the intent today. I just want to know what the criteria is cause I've got lots of neighbors with 4 wheel drive trucks?

One vet's opinion (22 yrs Navy)- If you are in the presence of the flag and the anthem, I'm hopeful that citizens are purposeful. If it's protest, fine. If it's hand over heart, fine. If it's saluting or even kneeling, fine. If it's yapping at your buddy and not being aware - less fine. And from my perspective irksome. I was hopeful it was a coordination glitch. If it's on purpose, fine. However, if they are in the tunnel and discussing basketball, I feel they should take it behind a door. Lock time. GO BEAVS

I guess I’m a simple person. I go to a basketball game to watch a basketball game.

I was in the military as well and I always respected and felt great pride about the American flag . Now it has been devalued and used for anti American purposes - so, it is no longer an American symbol. One Capitol policeman was speared with the flag , another one was bashed over the head with it . if you are not sickened by that , you have a way bigger problem than what our flag USED TO represent . These actions do NOT bring us together - it further divides us. I am sorry if you are offended , but , in my mind - having our flag used to Attack our Democracy is way beyond anything this Country has ever experienced. We need a new flag or a different symbol .

Do you expect the teams to sit on the sidelines for 15 minutes as the band plays their pregame stuff? In the scenario you describe, it is an established procedure that the marching band will perform on the field well before kickoff, that said performance will last for about 15 minutes, and will conclude with the playing of the anthem. The respective coaching staffs use the interlude for last minute meetings and instructions in the locker room. That's fine. If, however, they allowed their teams to stand around on the sideline to listen to the band play, "Oh, Susanna" and "Camptown Races", or to watch the tuba player dot the i in Ohio, and then had them scurry into the tunnel just prior to the anthem, that would be a blatant show of disrespect, would it not?

Sorta OT, but I just saw a video clip during the middle of Sports Center w/ Syd Wiese giving a shout out to Veterans, she's got several relatives in the Military.
