Brutally ugly, but a big win for UA. Their guards REALLY struggled to make buckets. Pellington and Yeaney can get after you on D but struggle on O. Oregon transfer Taylor Chavez is providing them NOTHING in the 2 games I've watched.
Maybe the announcers missed something, I didn't hear anything about an injury. Reese missed almost the entire OT. She wasn't in foul trouble.

She wasn't in foul trouble. Yeah, what is up with Chavez, she ended down last year and off to a bad start this year too I think she benefited A LOT from playing w/ Ionescu, Hebard and Sabally. Making wide open catch and shoot 3s is a bit different than trying to create some offense on your own. I don't know, maybe she's had some injuries? She used to be fairly quick I thought, she sure isn't now. Can't drive, can't get separation on a defender, not a player maker, and she's not hitting 3's. Don't know why Barnes is playing her so much. I'd rather see more of Pueyo, and get the kids Connor and Asi in the rotation. More upside and they'll be around a lot longer. Chavez is a veteran, but not at UA, and like I said she appears to be contributing just about nothing at this point.

It's Dad's weekend. A buddy of mine is heading to Corvallis. One year, I went two VB, men's and women's basketball, and football between Friday night and Sunday afternoon. I'm happy my daughter graduated from OSU but I miss this weekend. I think the politically correct police outlawed the term 'Dad's weekend' several years ago. I'd like to think it was a victim of a compassionate and modern look at parenting rather than anything overly PC. A couple of my fraternity brothers lost their dads in high school and they had a tough time that weekend throughout college, to the point of heading home each year rather than sticking around the campus. It definitely opened my eyes as how gendering each of those parent weekends was not the right approach, and I am glad it has since changed.

That's one viewpoint. Another might be that we should then also do away with Mother's Day, Father's Day, Father Christmas (in England), calling priests father and some nuns mother, fatherland, motherland, the first two words of the Lord's Prayer, and so on.
Almost everybody loses their parents at some point. While it's certainly harder when you're a teenager, it's something we all face. I fail to see why an enjoyable, bonding event for many, many fathers and their children should be discontinued for the sake of the very few.
But this has naught to do with women's hoops, so let's move on.

Arizona St. lost at home to what is probably a not very good Minnesota team. I'm all for conference solidarity in OOC...but I don't care for ASU much, so I can't shed a tear.

Arizona has a very physical, athletic and hard working team..They are well coached....And they fight hard...
They're going to be tough...BUT...they don't have top quality perimeter shooters, they shoot way too much off the dribble, and they are going to see a LOT (and I mean, a lot) of zone defenses this year. But, I'm glad they beat Louisville - a team that for the past 8 years, including this year, plays pretty much the same kind of game that Arizona is now playing. I was really glad to see the Wildcats beat Louisville today - - but I'll be even more glad to see the Beavs thump them in Gill... GO BEAVS!!

UW and WSU both win. WSU > No. AZ and UW > USD.
Notable: the Leger-Walker's combined for 12 of 36 from the floor for WSU.
For UW Haley Van Dyke had a triple double: 12 pts, 10 Rebounds and 10 turnovers (ouch)

UW had 36 TOs. No FG for more than 8 minutes to end the game. They won, but it sure felt like a loss. Wynn is gone, but the inept offense remains.

This was already Arizona's 4th game (two exhibitions), so that definitely helped them to be ready. Chavez and fellow transfer Kio Love are not showing much yet. Copeland is proving that she is going to be a strong contributor for them though.
Payton Verhulst only played 4 minutes for Louisville. I found that interesting.
Nancy Mulkey had 5 blocked shots for Washington, and as mentioned, Haley Van Dyke had 10 T0's. I don't see any previous games on their schedule, so I can see why some of their mistakes happened, but they sure played poor down the stretch.

Well, the Utes can put points on the board. 105 in their opener, 50 at the half today. Don't know much about their opponents (Lipscomb and Xavier), but I gotta think this team is gonna be better than last year's version Utah.

Good grief, Utes have scored 26 in the first 5 minutes of Q3. On pace to hit 100 before they even get to Q4.

Cal has a Fr., Jayda Curry, who has scored 23 and 27 in her first 2 games. I can't seem to find her name on the Hoopgurlz Top 100 list for '21. Max Preps picked her for POY in California. There's always some discrepancy among recruiting sites, but that's a massive disconnect.
Bears are almost an entirely new team. McIntosh, Crocker and Green are back from injuries. There's Curry, plus grad transfer Bush. Most of their rotation didn't play for them last year. They look solid. So does Utah. It's kinda scary how good some of the bottom of the league teams from last year are playing. I can easily see Washington finish in 12th place. Is it unthinkable that ASU could be 10th or 11th? USC has some potential too.

The following info about Jayda Curry's H. S. career is pretty damn impressive. (Info taken from Cal WBB site).
Named Ms. Basketball California State Player of the Year Named the MaxPreps California Player of the Year Was named the 2020 Press Enterprise Player of the Year Named the 2020 Riverside Player of the Year A four-time letter winner at Centennial High School for head coach Martin Woods. Earned All-American Honorable Mention honors from MaxPreps following her junior campaign. Led Centennial to a California State Championship her senior year, she finished with a double-double scoring 27 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in the win over Mater Dei. In four years she amassed 2,190 points, 778 field goals, 567 rebounds, 399 assists and 375 steals. Averaged 18.9 points per game in her four year career while shooting 41.3 percent from the field. As a senior she averaged 21.3 points per game, 6.4 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 3.9 steals per game. ------ She's listed at 5'6 so that may have been a negative in her recruiting....Nevertheless she was great h.s. player.....We'll soon see how that converts to success in the Pac 12... GO BEAVS!!
