Well, there’s Catholic and then there’s Catholic. I should add a note of explanation. There are Catholics who are hardcore, return to the Latin mass, keep women in line, only wear dresses and neckties to Mass, the Pope is wrong…..and so on. I’m not saying that Rolo was one of these, but there are definitely varying degrees of Catholic out there. So you’re saying that some Catholics are “Sanctior est tibi” And then there are convenient Catholics, like say the President of the United States.

I thought I read somewhere that the religious exemptions in Washington state were decided by a blind committee... nobody on the committee supposedly knew who the applicant was. I would assume job titles were not included to make that the case. It's basically his decision unless he had a note from a minister in a faith healing religion backing him up, anything less could have been regarded as dubious by the committee. I smell a church vs state lawsuit coming right quick I think you nailed that one

Joe Biden is a very devout Catholic. There is nothing phoney about him or his religion. Now if you were talking about trump's Christianity i would understand!

If you leave your political leanings out if it, "devout" to most isn't what Joe practices or espouses in some of his political leanings. Without wasting time on the obvious and well publicized, Joe picks and chooses the portions of Catholicism he sees fitting his political agenda. Joe is no different than most politicians, votes "trump" almost anything.

If you think “devout Catholic” describes someone that endorses abortion, you are the one “talking nonsense.” I believe you are smart enough to realize this, leaving only other reasons for your disagreement.

So you’re saying that some Catholics are “Sanctior est tibi” Personally, I strongly dislike the idea of Latin being a celebrated and somehow holier language than, say, English or any other language. So they might say that, but I’d just say that some Catholics are pretentious posers.

Why is it so difficult for Catholics/Christians to realize that their rules are beautiful…for themselves. But to impose those rules on others is kind of sick. Biden gets it. He is against abortion, but he realizes not everyone believes as he does. He also realizes, unlike Texas, that abortions will happen whether they are legal or not, and if young women are going to have abortions anyway, they shouldn’t have to die getting one. We are a nation of many religions, many faiths, and many beliefs. Why should all people be forced to live by the rules of one religion? Sounds a bit like Afghanistan.

Probably for the same reason that some people can complain about others moral deficiencies but cannot see those same traits in themselves.
