Vandy coming in as the favorite, with some big time draft prospects reminded me of just how hard this tournament is to win (see 2017 Beavs)... Pretty awesome that we've done it 3 times and just short of a 4th time. 2013 or 2017? Mississippi State got us twice in 2013. The first one by a couple of feet:

Vandy fell apart today. Some of the fielding looked pretty shabby. It must be pretty exhausting to win the first game and then lose the second. Congrats to the former banana heads. It was true in 2018. It is just as true today: 🍊>🍌

I thought that the ump had a large strike zone, especially low, and he was inconsistent. Dogs' hitting, pitching and defense was pretty good. Vandy's wasn't. Adidas beats Nike. Perry Costello. I know that he calls more games back East and that Arkansas does not like him for whatever reason. Costello was behind home plate for the Oregon State-Washington and first Mississippi State-Oregon State game in 2018 in Omaha, 14-5 and 12-2 Beaver wins, respectively. Costello was the umpire behind home plate for the 2013 Corvallis Regional Championship Game against Texas A&M, a 6-1 Oregon State win. Costello was also the umpire behind home plate in the second Miami game in 2006, an 8-1 Oregon State win. The big four games that he called were 5+ Oregon State wins. The guy basically has a perfect strike zone.

What happened to Rocker? Did he get shelled? Rocker just threw 111 pitches on Friday. He was throwing on four days' rest. That is full rest in the Majors, but Rocker has not thrown twice in such proximity since he was a reliever to start the 2019 season. Rocker looked like he may get out of the first with a double-play. Instead, he put Rowdey Jordan on third with a bad throw. Jordan scored on a one-out sacrifice fly. Rocker issued two walks to start the second. The second run scored on an RBI ground out. Rocker received a delay call in the first and a delay call in the second, which resulted in a full count to Jordan, who doubled home the the third run. Rocker retired seven of the next eight batters, the only one reaching on a muff by the second baseman. Rocker gave up hits to four of the first five batters in the fifth, striking out one. That resulted in runs four and five. So, the first two times through the lineup, Rocker gave up three runs on two hits, two walks and two errors. And both hits were by Jordan. Allowing Rocker to pitch to Jordan in the fifth was a blunder, exacerbated by leaving Rocker in to give up another two runs. In the end, on four days' rest, Rocker had a very solid 85 pitches in him but not the 92 that he threw.

Everyone is a genius the day after the game.

I guess that Kevin Abel's Tommy John scar is just a mirage? What? Ask Kevin if he'd change anything about that day.......yes, maybe he should have been pulled.....but TJ is most often due to pitching mechanics and has much less to do with pitch counts than most people think. Noticed that you skipped over Bednar who threw about the same number of pitches on 1 day less rest than Rocker had.

To attack in both directions, Will Bednar started the year hurt and just came off of the pitch count in early May. He has not really been through the grinder like Kumar Rocker. Plus, Bednar is a draft-eligible freshman, likely to be a first rounder after his College World Series performance. He is likely done. So, the odds of a Kevin Abel situation are slim, unless Bednar finished the Vandy game hurt.

My point was that Abel was coming back in 2019. I think that Mississippi State can afford to be a little more cavalier with Bednar, because Bednar's season may not be over.

So because Bednar would not be back and instead be drafted and gone from Mississippi St then that makes it so they shouldn't care about his future and thus not be concerned about pitching him too much and too often? Got it

Just to speak to flavors of SEC fans…… LSU fan is loud…but not in bad way. Pig fans…. They are enthusiastic and belligerent. Talking with an Auburn fan at the 2018 CWS…. he said they just have a massive inferiority complex. It showed.
