We were home team and you have to tie before you can win. Bunt!!! We should have sac bunt earlier. Seems to me that we won a couple of National Championship games against North Carolina by BUNTING. Also somebody should get a kick in the behind for leaving Kevin in that long. Not really all that happy with our pitching coach from calling pitches, leaving pitches in too long and most of all not seeing improvement. Well 4 in a row is going to be a real challenge,

Doesn't matter......every one of these guys should be able to execute a bunt. If they can't, that's on the coaches Seems like a good recruiting strategy - "If you come to OSU, you'll bunt all day until you get it right!" We all know how to execute a bunt man. Catch the ball with the bat, keep the bat head eye level, move your knees up and down to adjust the height...blah blah blah. Even if you know exactly what to do, the best bunters in the world are probably only successful at advancing runners maybe 75% of the time. Nothing's guaranteed, as much as we'd all like it to be. Finding ways to win, especially in the tournament is a good recruiting strategy

I can't stop thinking about the top of the 3rd inning when Abel threw approx. 11 strikes and 23 balls. Sure DBU only got 1 run. Of course, the Beavs LOST by 1 run.
After the 3rd out of that inning, Kevin did not appear for the 4th inning. Did Canham not want to embarrass him by taking him out of the game with 1 out, at a point where he'd thrown 11 Balls in his last 13 pitches? or maybe the thought was: he needs to bear down and work through this. Or perhaps, our bullpen is not the deep 'gauntlet' that it was once thought to be, so options appeared limited. At any rate, it was malfeasance to leave a pitcher out there who has demonstrated time again in the year of 2021, that his command just plain disappears (almost every outing).
Being behind - and the 3rd inning put us behind 3-1 - really limits offensive flexibility. Beavs never recovered.
Technically both Abel & Casey could return for the 2022 season (I believe). Neither will be early draft choices. Scouts today in Ft. Worth saw all they needed to see of Abel. Lord, I hope 2022 is focused on promising youth rather than inconsistent veterans.

Yes, they both could come back but don't count on it. They were recognized on "senior day," so there is little chance they will be back. You might be surprised how high Abel will go in the draft. The scouts look at potential and there is some in Abel. He definitely isn't the same as pre TJ surgery. I am not saying he will be a really high draft pick but don't be surprised to see him in the third or fourth round. Scouts look further into it than just stats and control issues . Casey won't be very high at all.

But, if he can regain control of his off speed pitches, he’s still got a chance to make it. Casey will not be drafted.

Abel is Abel. Recently he has shown signs of struggling early and settling down and then pitching excellent baseball. It's a no-brainer to let him battle. Being behind 3-1 is nothing. If you're worried about being down 3-1 in regional play, then you aren't ready for regionals.
Even though 6-1 looked insurmountable, we nearly pulled off the comeback.
Tomorrow's another game. We've got Hjerpe going for us, and he's been pitching very well. I like our chances tomorrow. One game at a time from here on out, fellas. Give it all you've got.

I guess the big question then becomes, does Casey grad transfer and follow his dad to LSU.

If you think there aren't professional pitching coaches who would love to get Abel and work with him, then you're crazy. Abel has great stuff. They know that already. They know what limitations NCAA and college ball place on a player. Once those are removed, don't you think Abel is going benefit from all that they can offer? Don't be shortsighted.

I was listening to the podcast that Josh Warden has been doing on the Beavers, and the past few have focused on the mental aspects of the game and the exercises and meditations that the players participated in thanks to Tyler Graham and two other people that were heavily involved in getting the players to put themselves in the proper mindset to play within themselves. One part focused on deep breathing exercises and how Kevin the World Series Star would be using them between pitches to stay grounded, and I noted that today he didn't seem to be using them. I wish Tyler was still with the team.

Yea, Abel’s command was awful against Stanford. He threw one bad pitch! As stated, his command disappears in "Almost" every outing: In Abel's nine PAC-12 games in 2021, other than the Stanford outing, he pitched 48 innings with 36 BB, 10 wild pitches and 9 hit-by-pitch. THAT does not equal command.

Doesn't matter......every one of these guys should be able to execute a bunt. If they can't, that's on the coaches Actually, it's on the player to become proficient in bunting. They get plenty of opportunities in BP. They can also work on it in the offseason. This ain't intramurals, brother. Yet sometimes even with practice and extra work, some guys are poor bunters. So you don't ask them to bunt. Ober has a total of three sac bunts in 120 career games. That tells me maybe he's not too good at it. Fair enough.... In the college game bunting is important. It's not glamorous, but it's effective. imo, any player should be able to be called on to bunt if the situation dictates. With the infield playing back, a safety squeeze should be a slam dunk.....Gretler runs pretty well.
