Have to say it, not a great managed game. Kevin in auto walk far too long. Ever hear of squeeze play to tie the game. Not a good loss in any way. Then of course, no hit, no run, no win. Ummmmmmm Abel's wildness cost us ONE run, the same as Dukart's throwing error. Keeping him in as long as he went helped preserve our bullpen. They had to get as much out of him as possible, as this will be his only regional appearance. Too many people in love with the safety squeeze. It's not automatic, as some here think, especially from players with no bunts all year, or left-handed hitters. I am not a big believer in taking the bat away from guys who hit homers earlier in the game.

Safety squeeze is almost guaranteedAnd infield back, a good one is a base hit Have you seen some of our guys try to bunt this year?

If they can't, that's on the coaches Some of these players were never asked to bunt all the way through HS. It's a lot harder skill to perfect than you think. So, every bunt we've tried to put down this year that didn't work is the coaches fault? Right. Plus, squeezing in that situation would have been wrong anyway. I'm sure if Ober's ball got through and we scored 2 to win the game, you would be back here complaining that we didn't squeeze.

Good Point we should have demanded Ober hit another Home Run. Play to win!

Ultimately though the real reason we lost is the same reason we've been losing. Pitchers giving up free passes

This ain't intramurals, brother. Yet sometimes even with practice and extra work, some guys are poor bunters. So you don't ask them to bunt. Ober has a total of three sac bunts in 120 career games. That tells me maybe he's not too good at it.

Good Point we should have demanded Ober hit another Home Run. Play to win! Not a home run, base hit scores two. Or one, with runners on the corners with one out, then you can unleash the squeeze. Either way, Ober didn't strike out, like he has done against slider throwing pitchers this season. He did what he needed to do, only it was at an infielder. Hard break, but swings like those are how hits are made.

If they can't, that's on the coaches Seems like a good recruiting strategy - "If you come to OSU, you'll bunt all day until you get it right!" We all know how to execute a bunt man. Catch the ball with the bat, keep the bat head eye level, move your knees up and down to adjust the height...blah blah blah. Even if you know exactly what to do, the best bunters in the world are probably only successful at advancing runners maybe 75% of the time. Nothing's guaranteed, as much as we'd all like it to be.

Here's the thing: the two guys we would've been asking to bunt were Fuchs and Ober. Combined sacrifices on the season before today- Zero. Combined homers in the game today- two. You got two on and no outs, I totally get bunting Fuchs - move them both into scoring position, eliminate the double play, give yourself two chances to tie or take the lead with two experienced guys. There's no right answer, only answers that work or don't. This time it didn't. No guarantee that if you try to have Ober lay one down he doesn't pop it up to the pitcher and we get doubled off. No guarantee if you let Fuchs hit he doesn't hit into a 6-4-3 DP. I don't think you can say it was an irresponsible or improper coaching decision either way. Well it comes down to not getting a hit when you really need it. Yes Ober hammered the ball right at third. Unlucky he hit it right at the third baseman. The Beavers have had issues getting runners in scoring position home with less than two outs during the season. This time it was an issue of hitting a ball hard but right at someone. Bottom line is this game, they got down 6-1. Can't expect to win in the post season when you get down that far. Couldn't quite claw all the way back but at least they didn't quit.

You walk 10 guys You do not deserve to even be in the game. We lucked out. Definitely Abel is not the same pitcher. That is to bad. I would have pulled Him earlier. Say 2 or 3 batters earlier. As for squeeze maybe but that is not ooor management. Fuchs did his job. One ball hit hard was caught. We also had a blooper caught at third that would have been a big hit in game.

Hard not to admire and thank Kevin A. They guy was amazing when he could locate his FB, he was lights out good. Seems he lost some on the FB and can't keep it down. Saying that the Coaches sure as hell knew when Kevin "had it" and was worth riding. Today it was clear someones was in Hope Mode and let him struggle too long. Just that simple. Giving up that many walks in a Playoff Game didn't make any sense.
