I think you really zeroed in on the adversity we went through with hiring a new coach. The de-commits , Mitch getting his type of players. For continuity I wish Bailey could have stayed for a couple of years. I also don’t think we should be relying on LBCC for future recruiting. One or two athletes are fine. I find your LBCC comment interesting considering our best hitter played there last year. I really don’t care where he gets the players from, as long as they are good. Am I mistaken or isn’t there a former Beaver coaching there? Seems like a perfect feed for us if he can good kids, develop them, and let us have them when they’re ready. Better for the kids because they get to play and better for us because they aren’t taking up spots while they develop.

Beavs Andy petersen coaching, OSU has used LBCC as a "farm" team for years. Recruit guys and tell them to go to LBCC, get regular playing time and when the draft pick graduates, there's a slot. As well as kids who want to play at OSU who go there hoping to attract the attention of the Beavs.

That's a pretty good one-two punch in Cal's order

Not to confuse things with facts, but ftd did post this during the big meltdown, definitely not “after” the comeback. In fact, somewhere they acknowledged their over-reactive ways. Google To Fat Ukrainians! thanks...yeah it was during the meltdown and during several adult beverages! I'd still like to have PC back, but that's not gonna happen.. No biggie.

I hope you have enjoyed your downtime from being head coach of a top tier college baseball team. I hope you are bored in your current posotion PLEASE COME BACK as Head Coach! Sincerely, FTd So what do you think Mitch is missing? I’m curious. All you guys seemed pretty stoked when he was hired, but you’ve turned on him pretty quickly. He was apparently a big part of the first two National Championships. (I was in Japan then, so I missed them.) In my opinion, Mitch is simply missing the experience. I assume he knows Casey method and style. I figure he just needs to develop a bit. Taking over a national program is probably pretty challenging. Two very avoidable mistakes were made when MC was hired: (1) a true national search was NOT undertaken. Only a very few personal "favorites" were seriously considered. We had a national program, we should have conducted a true, and objective, national search; (2) given the elite state of the program when MC was hired, why in the world was an individual with NO experience coaching college baseball hired? Being a good pal of PC and coaching in the minors, is NOT, IMO (and others), sufficient experience or qualification to hit the ground running in college ball. The individual who took over after Pat C. should not have had to undertake a steep learning curve, or any curve at all to be an effective college coach. We really didn't have to, and should not have, hired someone who required on-the-job training. Obviously, I have never felt encouraged by the MC hire. However, this dye is cast. Mitch is the head man now and every critic should be hoping to eat several crows in the near future.

Mitch is the head man now and every critic should be hoping to eat several crows in the near future. Sure, I’ve read your objections to the hiring of MC. But that’s how it played out. So even PC’s endorsement of MC means nothing to you? If I recall correctly, PC was part of the hiring process all along, but I’m not privy to such matters, so I could be mistaken. Certainly, he had a say in things. But I’m more interested in what you see that MC is doing wrong now. What skills do you think he doesn’t have that some other coach would have? In order to answer, you have to first recognize that losing a coach like Casey is going to change a program. Attrition is one reason. Some kids will feel (and may be convinced by others to feel) that they have been abandoned. Happens all the time. Second, a new staff has to be on the same page and get used to working together. That’ll take time. Mitch is keeping us competitive while dealing with these shortfalls. He hasn’t been perfect. Pulling pitchers like Mundt after 1 inning of work even though they are in a groove frustrates me. And early on there were some base running mistakes that were little league. But it’s baseball.

We're 1st in the Pac-12 and there's this much to doomscroll through? Jesus, what if Canham has an actual bad year like 2008 or 2016? You gotta save some pessimism for when you need it. Also, have some perspective, Jack Riley left Pat Casey a team that had just won 22 conference games in 1994. Casey comes in and wins 14 in back to back years. What a f%#*in' scrub, ammirite?

No, by itself PC's approval, to me, meant little. We all want to see our friends succeed, and as loyal as PC was/is, that can easily cloud anyone's judgement. My problems with MC so far?? For example-- look at the disaster last weekend with the $chmUck$....we virtually beat ourselves with painfully similar bonehead play in three straight: hideously sloppy pitching (too many CRITICAL walks, HBPs, etc.), pathetic clutch hitting, too little use of small ball in close games, weird pitching substitution(s) (e.g., Friday ngt, last of the 8th[WTF??]), etc., etc. Overall, the unbelievably high rate of HBP (and, seemingly, walks in critical situations) by our throwers is bizarre and suggests underlying problems with coaching philosophy. MC's seeming lack of confidence when/if to use small ball absolutely reeks of an inappropriate approach for college ball. I could go on, and I hope I'm wrong as he!!, but so far I'm not impressed.

I’ll take his choice over yours and a bunch of other donors that think they know better.

Your opinion and no problem....however, $$$ donated or not, anyone here would be foolish to think that their opinion had much, if any, effect on things anyway.

The problem a week ago Saturday was not poor coaching . It was players choking. How do you overcome choking? By not putting players that choke in to play when the game is on the line. Instead put them in during situations that are less stressful and when the game is not on the line. Then, as they gain self confidence, you ease them in during somewhat stressful situations. By this time in the season, Canham has a good idea of who can handle pressure and who can't, so look for improvement.
