I don't think too many people on this board assume that Jonas, Brian, and Katy *aren't* hoping for a head coaching position. I imagine that the only assistant coach in the whole department who isn't looking for a head coaching job is Michael Chaplin.

I would be very happy for Holsinger if he got the job. I believe he was a head coach at Montana Tech, plus he has a lot of really good experience as an assistant in Pullman, Corvallis, and a few other locations. He would be a really good hire for them as he has been recruiting those areas for a really long time.
Campbell also has a lot of really good experience and ties to those similar areas. Hard to see them hiring the interim coach at this point (as most schools simply remove the interim tag), especially with to candidates like Campbell and Holsinger. Campbell is probably considered the strongest candidate and Holsinger second.
He’s a really good recruiter and seems like a great guy, so I would love to see him stay in Corvallis.

Is it usual to announce the candidates for a coaching position? Seems like the ones not selected would want deniability for their potential future recruits.

I don’t know if it is or not, but in the case of assistants I would assume most players would understand that most of them are striving for higher positions.

It's interesting that UW passed on Mark Campbell.....He supposedly was on their short list, but instead they hired Rice head coach Tina Langley who's been very successful at Rice but has no ties to the Northwest?? I might be wrong but I don't think Montana should pass on Campbell.....Here is Campbell's full story:......... www.insider.com/sabrina-ionescu-satou-sabally-oregon-coach-mark-campbell-head-coach-2021-3?If OSU was searching for a head coach I would hire him in a heartbeat!

Persistent rumor I keep seeing is that UW was set on hiring a woman for the vacancy. That could be one explanation for Campbell not getting the job. He's been a hot assistant coach for a number of years, but still hasn't landed a HC gig. Could it be his personality is a bit hard to deal with? He comes off as pretty full of himself from the brief glimpses I've seen.

No males are getting any power 5 jobs unless they are a successful active coach. Title 9 also effects coaching hires.

I do not personally know Campbell ( does not appear , based on others accounts ), to be a person that I would select to hang with! However, I would not automatically point to him as a super recruiter . I think any 'warm body' could recruit to Oregon ! They have unlimited resources and facilities and can 'buy' top shelf head coaches - plus the bling for potential recruits is appealing to the kids that are attracted to bright, shiny things , and you have a career at Nike - afterwards ( if that is your dream job or Company ). They have advantages that no other University ( well, maybe Stanford ), can use to draw kids in . Two things they are suffering from ; 1) they sell themselves as elite, but they have never won the big one- & 2) The uncle Phil focus on athletics has further impacted ( in a negative way ), their 'attempts( mostly marketing based ), at selling anything to do with putting any value on the 'student' part of 'student- athletes ! Magnify what OSU recently went through with the anonymous donation to finish the stadium, and you can imagine the friction with the Professors at uo ! Not considered, well regarded or able to position themselves in the broader Academic Community !
