One item that appears to be missing during the first inning discussion, is the at bat before Armstrong's. Casey came to the plate with the bases loaded and no outs, and failed to get the ball in play. I've seen many times, not only to the Beavers, but a rally in baseball that seems to die before the final out of the inning is recorded. A runner on third with less than two outs, the batter fails to bring the run home. Sure, the inning isn't over, but that sense of getting the out can many times settle a pitcher down. Or the lead hitter gets on base, or two are on, and the batter at the plate fails to advance the runner(s). The inning isn't over, there is still another at bat, but it felt that has deflated the situation. The worst thing to do, when the opposing pitcher is on the ropes, is to give him the sense of, 'I got this', even if its only the first out of the inning. I'm telling my wife, "if they don't have Casey bunt, run a squeeze, it's not going to be pretty". When you have a guy that has more strike outs than hits, a ton of speed, and no outs in the inning with the bases loaded - a bunt down the 1st base line plates a run most of the time. His skill bunting is amazing, so I was thinking the same thing. Go small ball. The bunt would’ve been a productive out, unlike the strikeout. AA double play ball was unfortunate, but gotta give credit to the fielder there. I thought it was getting out of the infield. I don’t know what to say about Casey except that I’m disappointed. If he could manage to strikeout less, the team would be better with him playing. But we have others who can play left field and strikeout, too LOL

As far as the first inning, AA totally smoked that double play ball down the line. Very nice play by the Zags 3B. It happens. The next 8 innings sucked at the plate. What hurt more was Casey’s strike out on a ball out of the zone for the first out.

All I can say is Casey seem to swinging from his ass meaning he is absolutely trying to kill the ball. I guess they are teaching these kids it is all about Bat Speed and not Bat control. Kill or miss it! Just my guess.

I’m still shocked at Dukart not going home to cut down the run at home.....still a possible DP home to first. His choice to go to 2nd made for an impossible DP chance.

Chasing pitches out of the zone, and taking pitches right down Broadway.

That's insane, a guy with a 37.5% strikeout rate still seeing regular playing time. Jones is the next highest just under 30%, everyone else is roughly 20-25%. RBI and HR totals be damned. Casey, with the exception of a hot start, has been a 2021 disaster in the batting order. Prior to this season his combined SO rate was 29%. Prior to this season he had 1.9 SO for every BB. That has regressed this season to a 37.5% SO rate and a whopping 4.5 SO for every BB. He's become an opposing pitcher dream, especially if that pitcher is on the ropes. He stands a hideous 16th on the Beaver squad in OBP. And yet he is 3rd on the team in AB's ('helped' by the fact that he has walked only 8 times this season, hence almost all of his plate appearances become official AB's.) All this while smack dab in the middle of the lineup.
