I'm happy that she made the basket however she got lucky in that situation.....If USC had been playing any kind of help defense--as most teams do--the helper would have simply swatted the ball away when she did those 2 dribbles.....She violated post player fundamental #1 which is NEVER put the ball on the floor when you get the ball in close to the basket....You simply shoulder fake one way to get the defender off your back and leaning toward your fake and then quick turn the other way and pop in your little 2-3 footer before the defender recovers from your fake. Both of our post players need drilled on this simple post player fundamental move.....Marie perfected this move and added in the step-back also to make her shot unblockable by the time she was a Sr., so there is some hope that the coaching staff can get our young post players up to speed with their individual post-player moves in another year or so. 1 - We need to stop comparing Taylor and Jelena to senior year Marie. Especially Jelena who is 13 games into her career and coming off a year long injury. Marie as a Freshman mainly hit the occasional 15 footer. 2 - She didn’t catch that ball in the low block, but the time of the catch she was 8-10 feet from the basket. Not simple drop step territory. 3 - Your job in the post is to feel your defender and read the help. No help was there so she made the proper play. If the help comes she makes a pass to a 3 point shooter. This is like saying instead of the dunk you should have taken a jump shot 10 footer, because if the help was there it would have been a charge. You play against what the defense is doing, not what the defense should be doing.

I agree with the first two words jimbob posted, and everything wbosh15 said. Jelena has plenty of basketball IQ. She just needs practice and conditioning.
