When Magic was a rookie, he was the backup point guard to Norm Nixon, who had been an NBA All Star the previous year. Unfortunately for Norm, about 8 games into the season, everybody in the building, including Norm, knew his days as a starter were numbered - and they were.
Talia gonna do that? Let's wait and see a bit more before delivering a verdict on that.

Let's wait and see a bit more before delivering a verdict on that. Talia (Magic) may end up starting at some, but it’s not going to be in place if Aleah (Norm.) The difference here is that Norm wasn’t the Lakers best performing player. I think SR will continue bringing Talia off the bench, but play her a lot and have her on the floor at meaningful points of the game. He did that with Aleah a lot. I don’t see her taking Sasha’s starting spot either. Maybe she slides into Ellie’s spot, but even that is a long shot. She’s great, but a HS age player with 4 games experience. Personally, I would rather see SR continue to use her just as he I had so far, but gradually increase her minutes. Next year is a different story. I would expect her to start during her true freshman season and the 3 years after that.

Making a SplashTalia von Oelhoffen opted to enroll early at Oregon State and has already put up double-digit points in three of her four games so far. Just a few weeks ago, Talia von Oelhoffen was a high school student who had signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Oregon State, as is the “normal” process for recruits. But with a COVID-impacted sports world comes unique opportunities, and suddenly von Oelhoffen found herself scrambling to finish her high school classes early and pack her bags for Corvallis.

TVO faces her biggest test this weekend. Stanford is year after year the best, most fundamental defense in the league. They will try to take away her strengths and push her into her weaknesses. If she stays poised and her feel of the game allows her to be effective in this matchup, I think then you will know you have a special, special player.

This game is a measuring stick for our program. I hope our kids were able to practice for a good amount of time before this game. And, I hope Stanford was able to safely make it to Corvallis.

This game may help confirm where this team is at this year, but I don't think it will tell us much about the future of the program. A good game from Talia will only tell us that yes, she does belong, and that the future looks bright. A bad game from Talia will only show that she is suppose to being playing her senior year of High School, and her future at Oregon State will still look bright.

Like Talia, Sasha got off to a great start, but then pretty much played like freshman until the Washington game. Seemed the box score was showing 5 turnovers for her every night. Both she and Talia will have more games like Washington; both she and Talia will have more games where they play like freshmen. I would expect, however, that, as their careers progress, we'll see more of the former and less of the latter. Next year's team will include four 5 star recruits (Kennedy, Sasha, Talia, and Greta) who each have 4 years of eligibility left. Just noticed this as I was going through this thread. Kennedy will only have 3 years of eligibility left after this season. This whole extra year thing is really going to keep everybody, including coaches, guessing the next few years. Next year Taylor and Kennedy will still have 3 years of eligibility left, and Sasha, Talia, and Greta will have 4 years. Will all of those players stick around for all those years? It's possible, but probably not likely.

Savanna will have four years as well. Somehow she seems to keep being forgotten, I was as guilty as anyone of this but the more I see of her the more impressed I am. She is both fast and quick and yet stays under control. Best of all for us, she really crashes the boards.

I thought Kennedy's injury came early enough that she will have 4 years, as will Savannah, Sasha, Talia, and, of course, Greta. Am I wrong on that?

I think I need to see more than 1 1/2 games. insufficient sample set to extrapolate from. I think there are enough data points now to project that she will be among the greatest ever OSU WBB players. Her game reminds me of Jamie’s.

Her game reminds me of Jamie’s. Her demeanor on the court reminds me of Mik, doesn't show much emotion. I was thinking as I was watching the game that when, I prefer to think positive, Aleah comes back next year we will have the closest combination to Jamie and Syd that we have had. I was also starting to think that she will end up being one of the greatest if not the greatest.

Her passing is what I’m most excited about, she had a perfect pass to Taylor on a P&R, a no look to Jelena for a layup that I didn’t appreciate until I rewatched the game yesterday, and then that ball fake to the corner to open her up for 3. I can’t think of anyone I can compare her to for court vision. And one turnover against USC. Great work by someone who’s 6 games into her career.

Ranking HIgh School girls basketball prospects is very difficult. We know that, but we still get excited over the ranking a recruit receives, and are sometimes down on a prospect that isn't ranked highly. I always think it's fun to look back on rankings and how thing turn out. This being the strange year it is, you don't have to look back very far to get some early impressions. Here's 4 Prospect from the 2021 class who made the early jump to college: Saylor Poffenbarger Prospects Nations #6 prospect and Hoopgurlz #30, has played in 7 games for UCONN for a total of 20 minutes Madison Connor---Prospects Nation #33 Hoopgurlz #71 has appeared in 3 games for Arizona for a todal of 9 minutes Dominique Darius--Prospects Nation #21 Hoopgurlz #26 has played in 10 games, 78 minutes, and scored 20 points for UCLA Talia Von Oelhoffen--Prospects Nation #24 Hoopgurlz #25, 7 games, 83 points Both Saylor and Madison went in to loaded teams. Dominique went to a team that was already short handed, and is having injury problems, yet she is playing less than 10 minutes per game and averaging 2 points per game. Talia came in to a team that needed one more strong guard play and has taken advantage of it. I don't know who will be best 4 years from now, but Talia is off to the fast start. Considering Talia was rated one spot ahead of Dominique by Hoopgurls, and 3 spots behind her by Prospect nation, I'd say the early going says the Beavs look to have landed the player who appears to be the better talent in the early going. It will be fun to watch this play out, as it looks SR again landed a REAL talent. www.espn.com/high-school/girls-basketball/recruiting/rankings/_/class/2021
