They will play together alot and probably mix it up on who handles the ball primarily. Talia is 2 games in. Aleah is a senior. Scott clearly trusts Aleah. No doubt his trust for Talia will grow rapidly, if she continues to do what she has done in her first two games. If they can find a way to get Aleah more open shots, they will definitely do that as she is proven to be one of the top 3 point shooters in the country and the best OSU has ever had. This will also open up shots for Taya, Sasha, and Ellie.....and hopefully open things up for Taylor (who we really need to figure out how to get 10+ shots per game.) The addition of Talia will help alot, but it's early and she hasn't really played against strong competition. That will come and I hope she does great. I will leave the "turnover machine" comment alone, as it is totally uninformed. The rest of the post is right on the money though. Norm!

Exactly what I’ve been thinking! I believe she has just as good of a chance to be as decorated, if not more decorated than Talia by the time their college careers are finished. Like Talia, Sasha got off to a great start, but then pretty much played like freshman until the Washington game. Seemed the box score was showing 5 turnovers for her every night. Both she and Talia will have more games like Washington; both she and Talia will have more games where they play like freshmen. I would expect, however, that, as their careers progress, we'll see more of the former and less of the latter. Next year's team will include four 5 star recruits (Kennedy, Sasha, Talia, and Greta) who each have 4 years of eligibility left. I love Sasha's game, and she has a huge upside as well. She has the athleticism to be a rim protector flying in from outside the key like GPII. But she doesn't seem to be a court general-type. TVO just brings an element that's so hard to come by, which translates into everybody playing better. Maybe we'll see that with Greta as well, but Greta strikes me of more like a Mik type that quietly does everything (very well). It seems like their games will be complementary to each other. I also really love that all of them can break down defenders, but Sasha so far has a big edge there. However, TVO had one in the UW game where nothing was happening, and she just went and got a bucket easily as the shot clock was winding down, so it may not be that big of an edge. The one wet blanket I have on all this is that Taya is pretty much the same player she was her frosh year (statistically). I know she's had a major injury, but just pointing out that games don't necessarily progress that much over their career. Fortunately, all three of these (and Samuel) already bring a lot as frosh. Samuel is one that I think could elevate her game significantly over her time over what's he's already bringing.

I think I need to see more than 1 1/2 games. insufficient sample set to extrapolate from.

I really wasn’t putting her down but it did sound like like it. My opinion on that really was in the context of TVO taking pressure of her so she can get open easier. She is a fantastic shooter and has a difficult time creating her own shot. No offense meant. They need her big time.

My comment about turnovers was really focused on her passing and not her ball handling(dribbling)

Many times while watching Talia Von Oelhoffen in the past two weeks, my thoughts have drifted back 6 years to when another Washington prep (in a different sport) completed High School early and began D-1, PAC-12 action, while his (former) teammates were still finishing their HS Senior year.

Kind of funny reading about TVO being too slow and not a pg and overrated from her summer games. Now we have this thread on the board. No disrespect to the original poster not saying you were a nay sayer just laughing at the polarity swings as fans. I don't remember any comments about her being too slow, but I do know a lot of us saw some film of Talia and wondered why she was rated so highly. There was talk of her having Mono and perhaps that was the so called 'bad film'. I do take some pride in our coaching staff on this one. The people who watch and rate these girls mostly had Talia listed as a 2 guard or a wing. I listened to them too much and was really worried about her being the OSU PG next season as a freshman. Right away, Talia said SR planned to play her as a PG, and I think all of us can see why now. She's still young. She'll have some bad nights. It's possible she may even be better as a 2 guard, but it looks like we'll be fine with her as the point, and with Sasha, Greta, Savannah, at the 2 and 3 spots, Talia is right where you would want her as a PG.

I previously posted about observing TvO not hustling back on defense in some of the high school video shared on this site. I wasn't sure why, but I didn't see energy being exerted at all times. Clearly, she has the stamina required to play at the collegiate level. I did however notice her sucking air in the UTAH game, near the end, and I think it impacted her free throws (she missed both). But, UTAH is at 4000 ft elevation, and, I can remember jogging in SLC, UT, and it being much more difficult to breath vs Oregon at sea level. I'm already a HUGE TvO fan, and, can't wait to see Greta onboard with OSU.

Just my 2 cents, but I see (bear with me here) shades of Magic in her game. In terms of speed I don't think anyone is going to accuse TvO of being super fast, but I think she does have deceptive speed. Some players just look fast. Some don't, but are going faster than they appear. I don't know about her HS videos, but she just isn't ever going to be a player that blows you away with her lightning quick moves or feet.
In fact, going from Slocum to TvO is just about polar opposites in terms of their speed of play. We will probably never see her break down and blow by another player in the blink of an eye like we got used to with Destiny, but I do think she is moving faster than it appears much of the time. Part of that is the way she runs which is much more upright than most players, but that allows her to see the floor better than most (alot like Magic). Another part though is that that is just her game. She doesn't need to go fast, because she will use her body to screen the defender, and only needs to beat her defender for a few steps to get a pass or shot off. Frankly, I think I prefer her style to the jitterbug PG who blows by her defender only to rifle a pass from 3 feet away right through the unsure hands of one of our bigs and into the 4th row.
While she isn't a jitterbug PG I already like her court vision better than just about anyone I can remember at OSU, and even better - she really has a feel with how to deliver passes that lead the other player. Magic didn't blow by people (he wasn't exactly slow either), but he was a master at using his body (larger than just about any PG, ever) to protect the ball from his defender and the dude had eyes in the back of his head. I see a similar game from Talia.

This weekend's behind-the-back left-handed feed on a two-on-one fast break felt Magic-like. I almost fell into my livestream! And the three pointer, first-collegiate-bucket, was Legendary.

You guys are getting WAAAY ahead of yourselves here. Will you now compare Sasha to Larry Bird?
Magic had a skill set that was entirely unique. He was a big, big man playing a little guy's position, the best rebounding guard ever, and could do anything asked of him - if Riley told him the team needed 30 points from him tonight, he could do it; 15 boards, he could do it; 15 assists, he could do it.
Talia moves the ball well thus far, and seems to want to distribute it sooner rather than later. Nice looking game, but hardly what you'd call 'magic' just yet.

Don't mistake people seeing "shades of X player" in young players as actually comparing a 17yr old freshman player to one of the greatest of all time. No one is doing that. Being real, TvO has a chance to be great, but has a long way to go to even be the best ever at OSU, let alone anywhere else. I think we all realize that. Hell, she's not even starting yet.
