Damn straight.... You don't have to agree with me. Maybe you'd prefer to agree with the poster that says we should bench Taylor Jones because she's good enough to draw double teams....

Rueck chose the option of bringing Jones out from parking by the basket, and this worked very well for her and the team.

And on people not liking criticisms of SR. I just don't like silly ones, like how he's not recruiting well despite the fact that he's gotten more highly ranked recruits almost year by year. Or how bad his offense is when they were statistically ranked 9th in the country last year according to Herhoopstats. Or how the Beav's have been doing so badly when a third of the way into last season they were one loss from being the top ranked team in the country, and then after losing their 2nd starter they still ended up a ranked team. Last season when Louisville lost their lowest scoring player for one game and then lost to an unranked opponent their coach said "we've lost a STARTER, what did you expect?". But Rueck's incompetent for the Beav's ending up a ranked team after losing two starters?? The only other team that can do that is Stanford.
A sensible criticism of Rueck would have been why he didn't call timeouts in the 2nd quarters when the team was falling apart in several of the games this year. He did do it in this last game against WSU and the Beav's got their heads back in the game and stayed ahead at the halftime. Coaches make mistakes, probably comes from being human and all. But criticisms that are objectively untrue irritates me.

Or, you could just teach her to pass out of the double team....or swing the ball to the weak side to the open player. Another problem is that we don't have a lot of players that are good passers into the post. Taylor is not getting the ball in great spots and it allows the double team to come before she can kick it out.

It doesn't seem to have much effect yet.

Yeah, usually drawing an automatic double team is a good thing because it should lead to open shots for teammates.

It doesn't seem to have much effect yet. Getting the ball to her in better spots would help that. She’s often having to stretch for the pass or move off her spot to catch the pass. That allows more time for the D to react.

I like a lot of what Jones brings to the court for the Beavs. She will elevate her game considerably when she learns to effectively pass the ball after she is double teamed. Her A:T (6:16) ratio is poor, even for a center. Mitrovic is worse at 3:13. Goforth's ratio is 21:27 and she leads the Beavs in turnovers.
The Beavs would benefit greatly from finding more touches for Jones period. She shoots from the field at a consistently high percentage. The team currently does not have the playmakers who can make Jones more efficient on the offensive end by penetrating and drawing an extra defender. The young guards will improve with time, but their collective ability to put the ball in the hands of their 6'4" sophomore in favorable scoring positions is a significant work-in-progress that has cost the team wins already this season.

As much fun as a it would be to pile on Smails. He did have game back in the late 80's. Now he's probably a poor imitation of Sabonis, late stages with Blazers.
