18 offensive rebounds alone spells defeat. No three point defense spells defeat. This situation is puzzling. Not pretty. We are being burned badly on the perimeter. A zone defense against good outside shooters or a good half court offensive spells defeat. You stop good shooters with man on man not always zone. . That might explain some things. Does Rueck doubt his teams ability to go man on man. I think he is in zone DE because he doesn't have an adequate back up to Aleah. And because Taylor's lack of movement.it appears something around the basket is missing to give up 18 offensive rebounds. Rueck has a dilemma to face in the post. We are not able to get the kind of passes to Taylor like last years team yet. As one person said melena in 11 minutes had a. Good stat sheet all the way around. Rueck may need to fix some stuff up front before The civil war game. Or could get ugly.

Here's the reality, despite 9 TO's from the freshman, 5 TO's by Taylor, poor defense at times, poor rebounding at times, and amazing shooting by Utah, the Beavs still would have won if Taylor would have shot her usual 6-10 instead of 1-10.
Not blaming Taylor, I love her game. Just saying a normal shooting night from her would have changed the L to a W despite everything else that went wrong.

It was good to see Taya in some form tonight - if there was a bright spot she was it

Folks. They played poorly tonight. Not going to argue much of what has been noted about the game. But remember that half this team is new, with 3 freshman in the rotation. It's not going to be a top 4 conference finish, but it's not as bad as you all make it sound. No excuses, but have some perspective (3 frosh, Taya back after a year, 2 new transfers.) That's alot of roster change. Give them time and some grace. Well, the Ducks have all new starters, 5 frosh, 2 new transfers, plus 2 upperclassmen seeing the floor at Oregon for the first time and they are doing very well. That's even more roster change than OSU, but they are excelling. Go figure.

2 main reasons for this loss: 19 o-boards for Utah=too many 2nd chances....Utah pounds the o-boards and follow their shots well, unlike the Beavers who mostly just either stand+watch when a shot goes up or turn and head down the floor to play defense when a shot goes up. And #2 reason was Taylor Jones 1-10 shooting....Taylor's lack of basic instinctive low post moves was really exposed tonight....Utah was not double-teaming her but Taylor didn't have the moves to take advantage of this. When she got the ball down low it was like....hmmm.....I've only got 1 defender on me...what should I do....should I turn to the left or right.....let me peek behind me to see where the defender is....ok I'll go left....so 4 seconds later-(post player fundamental#1=make quick turns & shoot or quick fake one way & turn the other way&shoot before the defender is set+ready--gotta be quick&instinctive with these moves or you will get blocked!) one awkward dribble to the left and ball batted away-(post player fundamental#1A=do not put the ball on the floor when making your moves!!). Simple quick instinctive post moves like these are not in Taylor's game amazingly enough....This is stuff I taught and drilled into my post player daughters when they were in grade school...be quick and decisive with your move when you get the ball down low--even 1-second of hesitation/thinking what to do will allow the defensive player to block you, and also to never put the ball on the floor when making your low post moves.....It is really shocking to me that a player of Taylor's experience and ability has never been taught these elementary post player fundamentals!.........A couple of more thoughts on this game....why only 3 minutes for Subasic...she is a good player--quick for 6'4''-good rebounder+pursues the ball well & a solid offensive threat from anywhere on the floor.....we could have really used her out there tonight with Taylor struggling and also with our weak defensive rebounding......also I liked the hustle+speed+ball handling ability+aggressive defense that our other freshman guard Sav. Samuel is showing.....she was somewhat unheralded but she is a player!

So, baseball is the only sport OSU is better than Oregon at? I was hoping OSU would at least be very competitive with Oregon in WBB, but Oregon is clearly getting better recruits, has a great coach, and has raced past OSU. Even WBB is trending like other sports (sans baseball), to an upset win or two every 10 years, and boy, will we excited and pleased as fans. I hope I am wrong, but Ducks are not building anymore, they are just reloading in WBB and solidifying themselves as yet another program superior to OSU.

Yeah, I should ignore comparative facts or go to a Duck board. I hate it when facts get in the way.

Goodman is looking like Destiny + What no D Well whomever was assigned to guard Maxwell didn't get the job done. Don't know if that was Goodman or Goforth.

I really felt Taylor talked like she wanted to take this team on her back this offseason, but she had aboslutely no answers on both end of the floor tonight. Her ball handling isn't what it needs to be for her to exert her will on the game, and Utah punished her when she tried.
We really missed Brown and Mic tonight when it comes to rebounding with ferocity. Mic bailed us out so much last year on defensive rebounds that I'm afraid this whole team is going to have to learn they all own making up for that. Jelena is the exact opposite of the that kind of rebounder - it's as if she's been taught to move really gingerly her whole life so she doesn't break people around her - unfortunatley, we need her letting those elbows fly to be effective. She currently grips the ball like its a soft-shelled egg.
We have talent, but this team has a lot of weaknesses that teams like ASU in particular are going to (again) exploit. I simply cannot watch be so charitable as give up 20 TOs and offensive boards, I had to shut this one off. Hopefully this was an anomaly.

You must have missed the Civil War football game. Btw, I believe this team is one Hailey Van Lith away from being a totally different team. HVL was a big deal at the time. If only.....

2 forwards guarding faster guard like players on the outside limits your defensive rebounding
