I’ll be anxiously awaiting Willtalk’s analysis on how much better this year’s team is than last year’s after seeing this team struggle with and give up 80 pts to one of the worst teams in the WCC.

So in Covid protocol you can't do the post game handshake line, but you can play the game where close contact happens all the time? That make sense......Not Don’t try to make sense of it. You can cram into a Costco like sardines but you can’t have let’s say 500 fans attend a game with a lottery and social distancing with masks. I could go on. |

This team is not PAC-12 ready. Lots of new pieces, that don't yet know each other well, which especially shows on defense. Give USF credit for making their 3-pointers. Problem is, that USF made a lot of 3-pointers in their previous game, and we did not prepare well. I really despise the soft trap once our opponent crosses the half-court line. OSU is so out of defensive position, and got burned over and over. Just get back and set up the defense. A bit better on the 3-point defense in quarter 4, but we will be run out of town if we give up that many open perimeter shots against any PAC-12 team.

There were definitely some bright spots on the offensive end, but very, very few on the defensive end.
— Goforth’s 24 points. She can really attack down hill. Great off the bounce and getting to the line. We’ll need her to stay out of foul trouble.
— Jones’ 9-10 FT shooting leading her to 19 points. FT shooting was a struggle at times for her last season, so to see her go 9-10 was nice. She also hit a nice outside jumper.
— Mack’s 7A/1TO. She’s a good complementary piece. We’ll need her to be a better scorer and shooter during Pac-12 play.
— I thought Goodman did a nice job attacking and handling pressure. Just need her to hit her threes.

Meanwhile the opposing team's point guard goes off for 27 (7-10 from 3, 6-7 from the line).
I hope her game picks up - soon.
Because the competition is about to ramp up substantially.

If USF is really one of the worst teams in WCC, then the WCC will be a tough conference this year. Granted, OSU will get run out of the gym against a PAC-12 opponent if we play like we did today, but USF made shots. OSU gave up way too many 3-pointers in our 1st game, and, got killed today from the 3-point line. Gotta shore up our perimeter defense. |
