I thought masks in practice at all times were mandated by the Pac-12 and that Pac-12 teams can't start with coaches present until Oct 14th for basketball? But things change daily with the Pac-12.
In football no one was to be in the stands with no exceptions to watch but I believe Utah or Colorado was going to have family and friends attend games. So is big money donors in sky boxes friends? I am betting on inconsistencies from school to school on this whole thing. You watch in the P-12 what happens.

I believe the mamdate for masks at practice is for coaches. I personally can hardly wait to see what this team will do this season. It will be interesting to see what the new players will bring to the team. I suspect the chemistry will be improved. Another poster mentioned in an earlier thread that Mitrovic has improved her conditioning which has improved her ability to get down the floor. If this is true I am excited about her ability offensively. She looked like she had really good low post moves already. The teams low post play should be vastly improved. When you add better ball movement and 3 point shooters this should be a tough team to defense.

Not sure how we can assess the improvement of Mitrovic' ability to get down the floor since she is yet to do so in an OSU uniform.

Not sure how we can assess the improvement of Mitrovic' ability to get down the floor since she is yet to do so in an OSU uniform. True, we don’t have much evidence... just some info from the assistant coach interviews that suggest Mitrovic is in much better shape and a little evidence in the video above. If you pause the video and then manually move through it, you can see a very brief shot of her heading down court with the point guard (looks like Faustino) and Taylor in the same field of view. She’s not that far behind Taylor and seems to be moving well. IF Mitrovic can be reasonably fast getting down court, there is hope for a line-up with Mitrovic at center and Taylor Jones playing a forward position; the other forward could (depending on the matchup with the opposing team) either be one of our 6-0/6-1 G/F players or a big line-up with either Taya or Ellie. To me, that is a pretty intriguing line-up because of Mitrovic’s passing skills (see her videos playing in Europe) and Taylor’s ability to catch and shoot at the peak of her jump. Both will be tough to defend and double teaming one risks the pass to the other or the kick-out to a 3-point shooter. That recipe could make Oregon State a much stronger contender for the Pac-12 championship.

A faster-than-Grymek Mitrovic also opens interesting possibilities for more zone defense this year. If Jelena has increased her speed, and her mobility. this will not only affect her offensive game - it will also make her height a much greater defensive asset.
Grymek ran the floor (and rebounded) much better in her second year in the program than her first....Maybe Mitrovic is on a similar trajectory. I hope so. I agree with beavesteve than an improved Mitrovic will be a big, big boost to the Beavs......
Shifting gears: I'm not sure if Taylor is ready to play the 4. Last year he did not show much of a game more than 5 feet from the basket. So, that will be another "growth factor" to look forward to....Obviously, we're are all kinda in guess-mode right now. But one prospect I find interesting is Jelena at high post and Taylor at low post..... Whatever the case, Coach has a lot of possibilities to figure out with the number of unknowns he is dealing with. GO BEAVS!!

From various tidbits I have heard, I think we should expect to frequently see Jelena and Taylor on the floor at the same time. In which case, I agree with 411500 that it will be Jelena at the high post and Taylor at the low post on offense. That maximizes Jelena's shooting and passing capabilities and Taylor's low post scoring talent.

The high/low post approach would satisfy one of my big concerns, which was that we might be playing Jelena as a mere backup to Taylor. With her height and passing skills and apparent basketball smarts, I believe she will be one of our best players. You just can't keep one of your best players on the bench most of the time in a backup role. We have Jovana to fill a backup role at either the high or low post, so I say use her that way. The 6'9" factor is the one thing that would seem to distinguish OSU WBB from virtually every other team in the country, and that may be the key to winning big games against nominally more talented teams like Stanford, South Carolina and UConn. She needs as much floor time as possible.

Let's not lose sight of the fact that if Taylor and Jelena are on the floor at the same time, one of them has to guard the other team's 4 player. An advantage on the offensive end could be a disadvantage at the other end.
Anyway, it'll be fun to see what happens.

I think the chance that Jelena and Taylor will be on the floor at the same time to be....what's a number between really really really tiny and zero?
You want to toss out a two year starter (Taya) and put Taylor in a position she has never done, and has shown NO skill at, so you can bring in Jelena, who has never played for the Beav's.
Yeah, I didn't put in enough really's in front of that tiny. Trish has a great mid-range shot, 5/6 I think, but SR didn't take a chance on her with Taylor.

Have to disagree with you on this one, beaveragain.... If Jelena has seen solid improvement it's going to be tough to not get her on the floor 20+ minutes per game.....This will see her in the lineup with Taylor quite a bit....No need to sit Taya when this happens....Actually, Taya, Jelena and Taylor on the floor at the same time is do-able with Aleah & Sasha in the back court..... To bvrbooster's point about defending the opponent's 4.....This is why I indicated in an earlier post that with Jelena on the court your probably looking at the Beavs playing zone D....It has served the Beavs well in the past against quicker teams (UCLA) and good dribble penetration teams (Oregon & Arizona).....So, I expect to see a lot of it this year...
Now, obviously, all this conjecture is predicated on Jelena having upped her game to the point that she is a necessary asset - - something I find quite possible, even likely.... GO BEAVS!!

I have a really hard time seeing Jelena averaging 20 minutes/game. I don't see Ellie or Jovana mentioned anywhere above. They're going to get minutes too. Barring a rash of injuries (again), it's gonna be a juggling act getting all the front court players on the floor.

Well, there's 120 minutes of playing time at the 3, 4, and 5 spots. With Trish gone, Kennedy injured, and Andrea confined to Neverland, those minutes get divvied up among Taya, Taylor, Jelena, Jovana, and Ellie (did I miss anybody?) Barring foul trouble, I'd look for Taylor and Taya to claim about 60 of them, leaving 60 for the other 3. One of those 3 will be the other starter (my guess, Ellie) and lay claim to 25, leaving 35 for Jovana and Jelena. That's a pretty fair number for each and all.
This assumes, of course, that Scott will opt to play big the whole game, and that's a big assumption. But let's bear in mind that Jelena is a redshirt freshman who has never played a minute of D1 ball. Her development might be nowhere near as rapid as many on this board seem to think it will be. Scott will bring her along at her own pace. We got lucky last year that Taylor took to playing D! post like a duck (sorry, like a fish) to water. It is perhaps not realistic to expect that to happen 2 years in a row.

That's a huge assumption that Rueck will play a big lineup 100% of the time. Corosdale and Mack may see some minutes at the 3, but given Rueck's previous 10 years at OSU (that's a decent sample size), it's much more likely he'll use mostly a 3 guard lineup.

When you have 4 proven players (Taylor, Taya, Ellie, and Jovana) over 6' 3", and you can be reasonably sure SR will play Aleah, Jasmine, and Sasha togehter at times, I just don't see a lot of time for an unproven Jelena this season. I think this will be her season to get familiar with Pac-12 play, and be ready a year from now when the bigs will be Taylor, Kennedy, Taya, and Jelena. Don't misunderstand me, I would love for Jelena to prove me wrong. If she can burst on the scene and be ready to play 20 minutes per game this season that would be great. I think she is much more likely to play closer to 10 minutes per game. If she plays 20 minutes per game, the Beavs will be playing a big lineup quite a bit, or Jovana won't see much floor time. Hey, maybe they can go with all 5 bigs on the floor at the same time. Now, that would be a site to see!!
