We played really well in a lot of different aspects. Outrebounded them, out shot them in all three categories, more blocks, more assists, only 11 TO, but it wasn’t enough. Jones was really good. 14 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 blocks against Dodson and co. was terrific. In many areas... but, it seems Jones has scored early and often then teams take her away. Scored 14, but 8 in the 1st, 10 early in the 2nd, 12 at half. Her boards and blocks stay, but teams take her away, which is part of it. But, OSU seems to ignore her some also. Although in the 2nd she went soft on a couple attempts she needs to finish. Dodson is good, but she was only on her 3rd game back I believe. Furd is deep inside, but Jones had the start of a bigger night!

I think Maddie and Goodman were even worse tonight than vs UCLA:
Washington in 30 minutes: 2 points w zero FG’s, just 4 boards and 2 turnovers
Goodman 18 minutes and NO points. She also didn’t close out on their 3 pt shooters very well.
If those two showed up the last two games (or if Maddie was just better or played less lol) then it could have been two wins in a row

The "T" by SR was a 4 pt play and loss of a possession. So maybe a 6 point turnaround! And... back to depth... at one point in the 3rd qtr bench points were 20-0 Furd. So... taking all that into account how was this a 3 point game? PS- to the post that mentioned the late loose ball/offensive rebound. Watching the replay... NO WAY was Maddie even close to the ball or blocking off Dodson. She was much further and at an angle that didn't allow either. PSS- to another, with 4.8 left OSU was out of timeouts with the one taken at 17 sec. PPSS- the last possession was a play run all game. Once into Maddie, Destiny goes away, acts like she'll rub off screen then back cuts out to three point line. Shot or then Maddie side screens for Destiny coming back. Furd had 3 fouls and fouled creating the sideline inbound at 4.8. Furd had 2 others to give. Hull was smart not to try to get it before the shot attempt.

Too many things to overcome. Why we need better reserves and that T. At least a 4 point turn around. Tyrnovers and adjustments. Goodman no points . Wow.

Coaching staff has to teach Jones and/or Trish the "4". Having Jones and Trish on the floor with any 3 of our guards is a better formula on offense than having MW in the game. How many layups did MW miss last night? Trish played hard when she was in, and, isn't afraid to shoot. We can't have someone in the game who the defense knows they don't have to guard.

Does anyone in the forum believe that the team can win four games in four days at the PAC12 tournament given the kind of player rotation that Coach Rueck is using right now? Or win many (if any) games in the NCAA tournament?
Since we apparently are assured of not getting the first round bye in the tournament, why not develop a deeper rotation over the next 3 games regardless of whether we win or lose them(since it seems unlikely we are going to be able to host any NCAA tournament games at Gill, what do we have to lose by doing this?).
I would rather take our chances using some of additional bench players who have a couple of more years eligibility ahead of them, then just use a few players, three of them seniors.
Right now given the way Washington and WSU have fared against teams that defeated us, I believe we have a tough road ahead in that series even though it is at home.
Also, Cal could give a big lift to their season if they beat us Sunday. Go Beavs!

I appreciate the panic, I really do, but this rotation is no different than any Rueck team. He’s never really played more than 7 or 8 in big games. Go look at NCAA tournament box scores and see how many players played 38 or more minutes. Taya herself has played 40 minutes or more in an NCAA tourney game 4 times. This team needs to be almost perfect to beat anyone in the top 10, but other than that I still like our chances.

How many layups did MW miss last night? Trish played hard when she was in, and, isn't afraid to shoot. We can't have someone in the game who the defense knows they don't have to guard. Agree, and not here to defend Maddie, but... -Folks are expecting her to be something she never was. Maddie is barely a Pac12 caliber 4. She wasn't even a 4 when she was recruited. SR thinks she is the best option and I'm still in agreement. Morris still looks like a new born doe trying to figure out life. Trying to extrapolate that she'd do better than Maddie is inaccurate. I can also tell you now that Maddie's 4 rebounds, three are never chased down by Morris. Maddie also kept some Furd bodies off the boards, a stat that doesn't show up; -Maddie missed some shots, (4), but one for sure was a mid-range maybe two. Taylor shoots from basically the same spots, is bigger, a better player and missed (5) at point blank range. None were of a mid-range type. Taylor is no longer a Frosh, as some like to use/state late in a season, she is a bigger body that needs to take contact and finish more often. Something she'll learn, but even before foul trouble she was given the ball in great scoring position and failed to convert. In any case, losses this season have definitely been "team" losses... and that includes SR in this one. In watching the replay, at one time last night there was a stretch where in 10 of 14 possessions it was all dribble, directing people, one pass dribble, shot. TWO players touched the ball. Overall much of the offense was the same. Many times it was back to the dribble penetrate (Destiny, Mik mostly), pick up the dribble, get trapped, and struggled to find an outlet against the clock. This team has become much, much more dribble happy over the last two seasons. And when (3) players are taking 46 of your 55 shot attempts you have a team with no depth that is any kind of threat. You are a team that is very predictable and much easier to guard. OSU had (3) other players attempt shots. Furd was led by Williams with (19) of their 64 attempts, but had (9) others take shots, (8) score, and only one player played over 30 minutes. It is why recruiting depth and utilizing schollies is key, not just for injuries. At least (15) works for Furd. Injuries are an easy fallback, but the offense has been much like this all season when facing decent competition. Instead of the majority of possessions being multiple picks, player/ball movement for wide open looks it has become dribble and search, dribble and kick and dribble again. I can't count on fingers and toes how many times players have trap dribbled and been bailed out on a last second cut that is open. Not offense, freestyle due to lack of offense. In any case, you can count on OSU continuing to battle, compete, and never say never. But, the lack of depth and a sustainable offense take a lot out of a thinned roster. As many close games as this team has won, it is (2) hoops from being 5-10 in Pac12 play!!

Jones was really good. 14 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 blocks against Dodson and co. was terrific. Someone needs to teach Taylor to reverse pivot on the pick and rolls. She always turns away from her feed and loses sIght of the passer as well as leaves the defender between her and the passer. A reverse pivot seals her defender on her butt and creates a passing lane going to the basket.

I'd put Morris there. Give it a try it anyway. She actually has some touch on her shot. She shoots free throws pretty well and, as you say, is not afraid to shoot. There was such a hole in the Stanford defense at that high post/elbow area, that a player who had some confidence in themselves to shoot the 15 footer could have made Stanford pay and forced them to guard the 4. Which would have helped open things up some as well. Washington has that little 6 ft turn around jumper that she does well, but doesn't have much seem to have confidence outside of that. Her shots are extremely flat when she does shoot from further out. Mostly when she got the ball further out, she treated it like a hot potato, even when she was wide open. She was off it that game for some reason, and even her lay ups were way too hard off the backboard. I thought OSU played a pretty good game overall, particularly rebounding and defense, though they didn't close out on the 3 pt. shooters that well. Nice job at the free throw line. Again, the D kept them in the game but they just don't have tons of firepower on the offensive end and the second half just became the Slocum and Pivec "iso" show. It worked to some degree but sure didn't look like Rueck OSU basketball.

Yes. The Beavs, despite their injuries, have shown that they can compete with every team in the conference. As the #6 seed, they will likely open the conference tourney against a Washington school. If the Beavs win that game, then either UCLA or Stanford would be next in Vegas. One game at a time. One possession at a time. Just like the Oregon men last season. It is a daunting task, but it can be done on a neutral court.

Our girls lost by 3 points to the number 4 team in the nation on their court with pretty much a skeleton crew, and a chance to tie at the end. The Pac-12 tourney is going to be a tough go with back-to-back games, but as long as they keep fighting, I think some good things will happen in the NCAA Tournament. MB.

I'm personally proud of the way the beavers competed against one of the top 5 teams in the country on the road. Legitimately,we have maybe 6...possibly 7 healthy Pac-12 level players who are available right now. Without Corosdale,Brown, and Mitrovic,we are very thin on the front line. That doesn't even count Aquino who may never dawn a beaver uniform.
We have had some bad luck with injuries, and are on a brutal 10 game stretch. Some questioned why we didn't go out and get another recruit when we found out Mitrovic went down with her knee injury. Scott takes into account fit, character, and ability when persuing a prospect. I didn't see very many good candidates to fill the roster spot that late in the game. The locker room definitely matters...
