They really got pumped up in Los Angeles (county population - 10.16 million in 2017) for the beginning of conference play! Undefeated UCLA, off to the best start in school history, faced perennial contender Arizona State, and jammed 1,582 into the arena. Where did they find seats for all of them? Across town, USC, with its 4 top 65 recruits, was hosting undefeated Arizona, which boasts the longest sctive win streak in the nation. The Fire Marshall had some serious concerns about Friday night at the Glenn Center, but, at the last minute, decided to go out to dinner with his wife. Good call. The fan base stayed away in the thousands, with but 509 passing through the turnstiles. Here at home, I had speculated we might average 5,800 this weekend. Last night was 5,629 (seemed like more), so I still could be pretty close. The population of Corvallis is right at 0.5% of Los Angeles, and we drew 2 1/2 times as many as both their schools combined. You do realize there’s a lot less interest in Women’s BB than in Men’s right? Look at a typical WNBA game. Also, there’s a little bit more to do on a Friday night in LA than in Corvallis. I hadn't known that! Thanks for sharing. Now that you've brought it to my attention, it's all coming together for me - the disparity in media coverage, the much higher number of men's games on television ... I believe you're right; there is greater interest in the men's game. And there is more to do down there. For example, if the Lakers, Clippers, or Kings were playing, you could go that game in a venue that seats about 19,000. That alone would reduce the number who might conceivably go to the USC-Arizona game from 10,160,000 to 10,141,000. No wonder only 509 showed up. The other 10,159,491 were all attending better events at venues that seat 19,000 - there's 535 of them in Los Angeles, and they all have absolutely fabulous entertainment available every Friday night.

Part of the problem with women's sports in general is that women give lip service to attending women's sports. I am a knuckledragger, but I enjoy all the Beaver sports. I would rather attend a wbb game than a mbb game, and no knock on the Beaver mbb. At the same time, I have to beg my wife or other women attendees at our baseball tailgaters to attend a softball game or a late season wbb game. It is usually a couple of other knuckledragger who attend women's athletic events with me. Of course, it could be that my women friends, including my wife, just can't stand to be around me. I figure that it will be another generation before most women sports gain their deserved attendance, and it has to be women of the future generations that drive that attendance. Just my sexist, but frustratingly experienced observation.

Thanks for proving my point that most people don’t care about Women’s BB

One thing that OSU needs to do to make the experience better is to turn down the freakin' pa system! It seemed like it was getting better the last couple games and then they brought that damn dj back. It is so bad that people sitting next to each other can't even talk, even if they are yelling. I'm not that old and I have good hearing which i would like to keep.
Anyone have the name or number of who I should contact at OSU to give them feedback?

Personally, I’d like more loud music, and hopefully modern pop songs. You can tell the team loves it, some of them are actually dancing. Whatever gets more young people to show up and dance and sing, the better.

That must be it, thousands of students don't go to the games because the music is not loud enough.

At OSU, WBB attendance has grown over the years to eclipse that of MBB (click to enlarge image below). That was true last season, and also so far this season. OSU fans are not stupid, they recognize good basketball when they see it.

Oregon State seems too low. With the screaming shrieking game (over 9,000) and around 5 K recently, some attendance values of much less than 4,000 would be required for the 4,282 average. I do not remember such low values this year but then maybe my memory is not that good, being an elderly WBB fan. A question. If season ticket holders with reserve seats do not come to the game, are they still counted or are they counted only if the machine scans their ticket for that night?

I believe that attendance is based on tickets scanned. I assume the support staff have a badge that is scanned when they enter.

I'm not sure how many former MBB fans are now skipping those games to attend WBB games. Our decreasing MBB attendance is because we just haven't been very good and the Portland-area fans just aren't making the drive; 8 p.m. tips don't help. WBB fans seem almost entirely local, so the occasional late tip isn't a factor.
WBB is, however, killing gymnastics. They used to have the corner on the family/geezer market that now flocks to WBB games and their crowds have decreased by at least 50 percent in the last decade.
I suspect they'll rebound when Jade Carey (sp?) finally shows up. She will be our best gymnast since Chari Knight.
