I have a good friend who played at Oregon years ago. He is close friend's with Helfrich and had some insight to CP earlier this summer. Peterson is a very ethical man and coach and does not like the way recruiting is going and what it takes to appeal to the best players in the nation. He feels like he is trying to compete with the Oregons and the USCs with one hand tied behind his back. It is less of an issue for us as we don't go heads up with those places often and when we do the "rules" for those players are a bit different to say the least.
I don't think he liked the grind much given all of that.
Now...I could be completely wrong and if I am I apologize to no one as this is just a message board.

" A source close to Petersen told ESPN's Adam Rittenberg that the 55-year-old is healthy and has no family issues. The season really wore on him, the source said, and he needed a chance to step away and recharge. Peterson will be in an administrative role working with leadership development for coaches and players." From the article Deja vu. Sounds like Pat Casey.... Definitely. Peterson is still mentioned for every head coaching job that opens, even an occasional pro spot. All high stress and high profile.

Does that last part mean you can say whatever you want?

Seems like a strange enough development that the true story won't be found in a newspaper or its on-line equivalent.
Recall that the official version is that GA just walked away from 12 large as a gesture of good faith. Not too many buying that around these parts.
College football is awesome to be a fan of, but i think few really want to visit the sausage factory!

I think that the newspaper is paying it some lip service:

Like so many coaches Petersen seemed to have less success with his own recruits than with the players he inherited from the previous coach, although his own recruits were higher rated. Successful coaches make adjustments for the difference between the player you sign and the player that actually hits the field much later.

And possibly one of best deals for beaver nation is that JS has him as a mentor and he will encourage him to stay at OSU where .500 or better will bring joy to the fan base. Well, me anyway.
Wait... this just in...

Hmmm.... maybe Peterson wants to move somewhere with less stress and expectations, where playing strictly by the rules isn't as much of a disadvantage.... We could use an upgrade at either coordinator position, if you are looking, Chris

One interesting aspect of this particular coaching change is if, and it's a big if, Leach is considering leaving WSU, would Jimmy Lake have been on top of the Coug's list with his Spokane/EWU roots? Sounded like he desired to be a HC and Pete stepping down now provided the opening needed to keep Lake at UW before Leach's exit from WSU. Just food for thought. The Cougs current offense (retain the OC) along with Lake's defense could have been a formidable combination.

Lake is pretty much public enemy #1 with the Cougs for all the talking he does about them.

Unless your claim is that the 2016 team was mostly Sark's players, the records disagree with your statement as well. Petersen at UW: 2014 8-6 2015 7-5 2016 12-2 2017 10-3 2018 10-4
