I'd hope that losing to two top 20 teams doesn't drop Miami. But maybe.

Looks like Stanford will beat Mississippi State, so they should move up to number 1. Don't think Baylor or the school whose name is never spoken will drop out of the top 5, but Louisville and South Carolina move up. We might wind up having beaten a top 20 team and dropping a spot to number 8 in the AP poll.

This early, the polls don’t mean much or affect much ! I don’t care where we are ranked until it’s tourney time !

Stanford won a nailbiter in the end. Louisville will almost certainly be in the top 5, but South Carolina,s loss to Indiana (who is very good!), will probably cost them a top 5, but it's hard to say. Texas A&M plays number 12 FSU tomorrow, so a win for them hurts the Beavs. Beavs don't play anyone highly thought of now until Pac12 play, so they probably won't have much of a chance to move up the next few weeks.

Just based on that video of Louisville, I'd bet they have a good shot at #1 ranking this season. They've got a dynamic and athletic guard who plays like A&M's Chennedy Carter and they've got talented size in #21 Shook and they've got good 3-point shooters. Looks like all their players are very athletic. Louisville is going to be a tough out and beating the ducks was no fluke. The ducks have another likely non-conference loss coming in February. Who made up their schedule anyway? At Utah on Jan 30, at Colorado on Feb 1, at UConn on Feb 3, and back to Eugene vs Arizona on Feb 7. So they're in Colorado on Feb 1 and take a long, tiring flight from there to Connecticut, then a really long flight back to Eugene. Graves must have thought his team was invincible and that the UConn win would cement their #1 ranking for the tournament. Ain't gonna happen Mr. Graves.

It's aggressive, but seems pretty smart to me by Graves. To win deep in the tourney, you have to travel and play well over 2 games in 3 days. We saw how OSU responded yesterday to that in a back-to-back after traveling, and the first half was ugly... that effort was a loss to a quality opponent. Even with the Pac-12's deepth, there's really no week on the schedule that replicates even a sweet-16 sequence on the road in terms of back-to-back quality. The trip to AZ or SoCal are probably the closest, but that's relatively easy travel. I also suspect Graves wants a few losses. Even if it costs a #1 seed, that's not the goal ... he needs to find a way to keep that team believing they need to keep working hard and improving. Looks like UL just delivered that message.

On Oregon's tough February schedule. My guess is that the main attractions to the Connecticut trip include the following: (1) National TV audience, (2) a chance to beat iconic UConn at home, (3) an opportunity to further advance Oregon's national image and to promote Coach Graves as a great coach, (4) enhanced recruiting impact on the East coast......
I agree the trip is demanding and they very well may regret signing on for it....Every coach would quickly recognize that this kind of a cross country trip is tough on the players... The Connecticut trip is another part of their national branding campaign that kicked off big time in Ionescu's junior year.... At least that's how I see it half way thru morning coffee.... GO BEAVS !!

Graves sure as hell wants to have a #1 seed and get slotted in the Portland Regional. That would potentially allow them to get to the Final Four without leaving the State and playing 4 NCAA tournament games in front of home crowds.

I really don't think that Graves or anyone else in Eugene is thinking that deeply. All Graves can really do is tell the assistant in charge of scheduling to "get a couple elites" on the schedule, and from there it's a matter of the assistant sending dozens of e-mails and juggling potential dates, seeing who is up for a home-and-home, who is looking at which tournaments, and praying that they can make it come together. There are way too many moving parts to imagine that there is any sort of deep strategy at work.

Hmmmmm, let's see. Get two national powers located on opposite ends of the country to agree to meet during the middle of their conference seasons for a nationally televised game. For both teams a loss hurts their national profile. For one team the game involves a major travel hassle.
Got it. No problem. Turn it over to my assistant.
Does that sound right? GO BEAVS !!

This is the last college rodeo for Ms Flop. They better get it done this year, or they will have to recruit another Press clipping princess. Anyone for the quadruple double ( points, assists, rebounds, steals )? What will the ducks next grab for relevancy and validation be ? I am thinking maybe a 5’6” center that can dunk...

These kinds of games are the norm for UConn. The AAC sucks, so they are always looking to challenge themselves in January and February. This year they have Baylor, Tennessee, Oregon and South Carolina on the schedule between 1/9 thru 2/10. I have no idea about how much assistant coaches are involved in scheduling, but mid season meetings of powerhouses is totally common practice when UConn is involved.

The uconn game came about when the Huskies came or a couple years ago for asshat's 80th birthday. The sucks fans were not happy that their team didn't play them (a loss would have spoiled the party) so they scheduled a home and home series.
