Things have to be really bad not to have a coach on a contract that extends at least 4 years. If your on anything less then that you can expect it to be used against you in recruiting.

ArticleFrom Oregonian preview: Oregon State, coming off a fourth-place finish in league play, was picked to finish seventh of 12. Beavers coach Wayne Tinkle said someone asked him this summer about a predicted finish, and he thought somewhere between No. 5 and 8.As low as 8th? What coach on the hot seat would even entertain the possibility of finishing 8th? A coach that is not on the hot seat.

He will not be going anywhere anytime soon unless he leaves on his own accord.

And since they were predicted to finish seventh, he's spot-on. He did not say he expects them to finish 8th.

Marvelous reading comprehension skills. Yes, thank you. No coach is going to say they will finish between fifth and eight. Jesus people, use some common sense.

See what he and staff do with an empty nest. Extension premature.

I thought the coaches' kids played too much, took bad shots, hogged the ball, etc. But now we shouldn't extend the coach by one year, because we won't be any good when those same guys who played too much, took bad shots and hogged the ball leave?

See what he and staff do with an empty nest. Extension premature. It would not shock me in the least that some opposing coaches might have used the “family plays first” in recruiting players they and the Beavers were both after and may have hurt our recruiting a tiny bit. Hard to say though. Tinkle came in and took Robinson’s bench guys, predicted by everyone to be bottom in the league, top scorer 4.0 points per game, to 17 wins. I think they’ll do just fine without the kids. You gotta do the extension BEFORE this recruiting year or you’re proclaiming the coach a lame duck. It should have been done months ago.

There must be another quote you are looking at. You are inserting "would" to support your take. TT should have followed with, "but I believe we will finish higher" in your version.

Unfortunately dangling a carrot doesn't improve coaching/recruiting ability! Same guy now just trying to reach external personal financial gains. I fear most of those $$ will never be spent... kinda a good news bad news thing. The development and incorporation of newcomers... WT's greatest weakness so far IMHO... is 100% essential for any success this year. Teams can figure that TT and ET will get theirs most nights (what is that 30-35pts/12 rebs/10 asst/5 tos per game??)... will anyone else be a consistent threat?
