The problem with this program is not the coaches or players it's the lack of investment by the university and fan base. It's the same old story with a few positive hiccups over the last half century. There's no excuse for not being able to do what's done in Pullman Mike Leach was 3-9, 6-7 and 3-9 his first three years at WSU. And he had veteran QBs Tuel and Halliday to work with. Wulf actually had WSU trending up when he was fired, unlike Anderpants. What's WSU's record compared to ours in "modern" time, like the last 20 years? PS: 50 more wins over a 42-year period (since 1978) averages out to about 1.2 per year. Not much of a difference, for all their supposed excellence. If only we would see that many wins in Smith’s first 3 years. And who said anything about excellence . Most beavers fans would be happy with being competitive. Enjoy the ride

Well I’ve been attending since 78 and WSU has won 50 plus more games than we have over that period. Football success is the absolute key to financial success in any athletic department. If you don’t invest in it you will fail consistently with an occasional decent run/year. You win, let me rephrase are “competitive “ and get 10000 more paying fans maybe 5 million plus a year in revenue not counting more donations you can afford to pay a decent staff and improve facilities over time. If not, live with the consistent failure , make the best of it but give it a rest on the coaches and players. So since your focus is financial investment, are you saying Oregon St should follow WSU’s model? It appears so. WSU’s athletic budget was close to 20 % lower than ours in 2017/2018 if the sources are correct. $65mm vs $81mm

From your limited posts it sends you'd find fault no matter the win total. I'm sure WSU will appreciate your board membership. PS- if you do apple's to apples comparisons you'd notice the records after coaching change/rebuild is quite similar yet OSU not financially in "ruin" trying to keep up with the Jones' that is not possible.

Wow... trees for forest to try to make no point! Edit... I'll add that friend's family member and daughter work in academics at WSU and cuts are real, deep in some places. Staff "told" to keep it from public consumption on specifics.

Do you realize what you’re actually arguing is to “invest” in Beaver football by reducing the budget? Your points are colliding.

More debt is not necessarily bad if you understand financing at all

Budgets are nice. $100 mil in debt is a shovel to the face. Do you realize what you’re actually arguing is to “invest” in Beaver football by reducing the budget? Your points are colliding. Maybe spend it more effectively. Do you like the results you are seeing? Do you have any recommendations. Low expectations maybe. Debt is a very effective way to make money. More debt is not necessarily bad if you understand financing at all I think you’re losing track of your original argument. Here is your post in its entirety: “The problem with this program is not the coaches or players it's the lack of investment by the university and fan base. It's the same old story with a few positive hiccups over the last half century. There's no excuse for not being able to do what's done in Pullman” You’ve now changed it from “lack of investment” to “maybe spend it more effectively”. Sounds like you really aren’t sure what you want them to do. Now would be a good time to point out that the administration decided to do just what you (first) propose after Coach Riley left. To spend more money. And they did just that with Andersen and his gang of overpaid underachievers. Luckily, through some unknown assumed nefarious behavior by Andersen and the blessing of the Football Gods we got off the ride to Hell without forking out $12-13 mil for it. We are currently spending quite a bit on coaches, although J Smith as a first year Head Coach was hired at a good discount to the average. I think it’s too soon to tell whether or not he’s the right guy, but I’m for it. (Ugh-I was also for the GA hire). But to answer your questions, no, I’m not happy with what I see. But apparently unlike you I see progress made in the skill level of the players and the offense. Do I have any recommendations? Only for fans. Don’t let this ruin your life. Fast turnarounds might happen at some big name big money schools, but not most. It will take more time. Even Florida, FSU, S Car, Texas, Arkansas, All kinds of big schools have taken a long time to recover from depths that weren’t even close to OSU’s. I think the team is on the right track. If D doesn’t improve by mid-year I would advocate for change. As for me? I started school at Osu in 81. Personally, I’ve had a Hell if a lot more than “a few hiccups” of success and enjoyment in that time, more specifically since ‘98. These past years dating back to Coach Riley’s last couple have been tough. I’m looking forward to good times returning. In the meantime, I’m not going to let it ruin my life like many here seemed destined to.

WSU is the most comparable program we have. I have no desire to win the quantity of posts game with someone he thinks he knows everything and everyone and lives on the board like you do. Try to be a little less insecure. Attacking people that may have a different opinion than you is unbecoming to any adult which I assume you are, And bragging about who you know and what you know all of the time is a pathetic attempt to garner some form of respect that you must not be able to obtain in the real world.

Lol... says the guy who thinks he knows who is comparable yet knows little of the factual info. And, then posts the disparaging remarks he so disdains?! 🤣🤣🤣 You yourself implied we enjoy the ride, which you were not? Or, is that a complete misinterpretation? And, knowing more than you about these situations, being in educational field and having colleagues still there is indeed more than you know. Never claimed expertise over other. But, certainly more than debt is a great way to make $ financial guy in this instance! Lol... hint, it's not concerning educational institutions. PS- guy who doesn't know the details, changes the target then accuse others of insecurity... hmmmm who felt threatened? 🤯🍻

Speaking of debt , do you have any advice on how we should handle the 20 plus billion in PERS debt or is it 30. I know you are sensitive too debt so I thought you might have some ideas on how to resolve that issue.

Well spud there is debt that finances a future revenue stream and debt that just grows and only generates a large exponential outflow and no corresponding direct revenue. Don’t confuse the two.

....been a win! That was a season defining loss that will likely demoralize this team to potential winlessness! Back to the original post... I truly believe that if we had played this Hawaii team either of the last two years, they would have hung 48-60 points on us. I think we are making strides.
