“It’s phenomenal,” Graves said. “A state our size, we’re not one of the bigger ones, so to have two elite programs and programs that aren’t going anywhere ... It’s not like we’re just flashes in the pan."
I think that's just a little premature Kelly! You're right now just a flash in the pan. Let's see how well your program does in the next 4-6 years. If you make it to the NCAA tournament 2018-2025.....then you might can say " It’s not like we’re just flashes in the pan." Some other program up the road has already accomplished 8 straight years.

While it may be true that you have to sustain a high level over time to be “elite”, and the presence of a generational talent in Eugene right now (Hebard ain’t bad either) has a lot to do with it, like it or not, the ducks have a great thing going right now. I personally love having such a high level of talent and play in the Civil War. The PAC 12 is strong year in and year out in women’s hoops, and the Oregon schools are at the top with Stanford and ASU as not being “flashes in the pan”. I can’t wait for game 2 in Corvallis. Should be epic, and I like our chances to bounce back with a big win. Not a shabby showing in Eugene last night, and I expect Mik to be possessed - in a good way.

They’re going to win the conference two years in a row. That’s not exactly a “flash in the pan”

Where do you see that OSU has made the tournament 8 years in a row? I only count 5.

It will be interesting to see if they can maintain when SI leaves. We have sustained the loss of Gibson, Weisner, Wiese, Hamblin, Gulich and Hanson, all of whom earned various All-American/Pac-12 top individual honors, without a dropoff. If they lose SI in addition to Corzola, they could be hard-pressed to be a top-3 Pac-12 team next year. Gotta have guards.

Taylor Chavez is one player Oregon fans are looking to fill one of the guard roles next season.

First off, it's going to hard for any team in the Pac-12 to with the conference every year. The Beavs aren't going away, Stanford isn't going away, Arizona State will probably remain in the mix, UCLA continues to have great recruiting classes and there is no reason the ducks should be counted out as being in the top half of the Pac for the next few years. I don't think they will continue to be the conference champion, but with the sisters Sabally, etc, they will be tough for a while......doesn't mean they will be 'elite' (whatever elite is), but they should remain good......I don't think they will remain as good as the Beaves though...just my opinion.

I don’t have a problem with what he said. I took it as a compliment actually. But yes, they have a ways to go to match OSU’s success.

If you look at the trajectory of the improvement of the two teams from the time of Rueck’s and Graves’s hires the rate of improvement is about the same. If anything Oregon got to the NCAA’s a year faster and won the conference a year faster. The real test will be can they sustain that level after the departure of their 2016 class. We were able to sustain that level across multiple groups of players. Only time will tell if they can.

It all sounds good but don't forget OSU was considering canceling a season after Lavonda.

Horton vs. Casey is the same to me. Horton and Graves recruited to a brand and state of the art facilities where Rueck and Casey had a much harder road to hoe. If you can't see that then I and none of your beaver brethren can help you.

I agree that the brand and facilities gave Graves more to work with, no question. But they both started from a very depleted talent pool, and you see that in their records in their early seasons.

I don't recommend trying to hoe a road.
