true fact: ooc schedule isn't even done yet. It's not impossible the team will improve enough to get a winning season in Pac 12. Yes that seems far fetched and would have to reverse a long trend, but there is enough scoring and shooting and rebounding on the team to make it happen. Major changes need to occur however, in a short term span. The current paradigm is clearly not working. Losses to inferior teams is just the clue. The actual problem is the way the team is losing. The team is playing to it's weaknesses and ignoring it's strengths. For example, Good shooters (Tres and Stevie) are passing up threes to penetrate, neither guy has the athletic ability or handle to be a penetrator.
Ethan Thompson is clearly the best player on the team. Can Tres and Stevie defer to this fact and screen for him instead of going on solo missions? Tres needs to either stay out on the arc and wait for a pass or crash the boards. If he puts the ball on the floor he needs to be pulled out of the game. Stevie: same thing. Set up on the arc and be a sniper. You are not a penetrator.
Kylor Kelley: You got two fouls yesterday because you jumped to block a shot. All of your blocks come with feet on the ground. Don't jump on D! You have to stay in the game to be effective.
Hollins: you need to calm down and let the game come to you. 1 turnover quickly becomes 5 when you lose your head. Quick leash.
Reichle: why do you have a scholarship when you don't play hard? Look up scrappy in the dictionary. It's not a sometimes thing.
Above all this team needs to stop dribbling and start passing the ball with intention. Although i hated Wayne' excuse about inexperienced players (Wayne your three experienced players accounted for 14 turnovers yesterday) i did like him recognizing they are not doing simple things like "meeting the pass. " Time to bench guys who don't do that, even if they are coach's sons.

The key for him is to jump straight up and not into the defender. He also needs to learn to not try and block every shot. This was the same issue that Drew had.
But, if you tell him not to jump at all, you just turn him into skinny Big G and we don't need that.

You make a good case for us to lose our sh!t. I don't see any evidence that this group will turn it around. I seriously doubt Tres and Stevie are going to change anything. Three-plus years in a program is plenty enough to get your dad's coaching. We should win some home games against the bottom half of the conference. I'm guessing 7-4 non-conference and 6-12 conference for a 13-16 year.

I know exactly what i am looking at. two times yesterday he picked up fouls jumping to block the shot. I was at the game and specifically made a mental note of it (yeah dont go there). The first foul was early. The score was 4-0 beavs. the aggie drove the lane for the dunk and KK jumped up to stop the dunk and got a piece of the arm. Should have just let that dunk happen cuz the guy was free. The second foul was later in the half when he rotated to cover an open back door. Again, he is very good at blocking shots without jumping. He had two of those first half. But he get fouls when he tries to over extend in the air.

If you are so sure the team is going to continue to fail then what's the rush? Just be patient and then you can really lose your shlt later when your prognostics are wildly accurate.

I think you're greatly overestimating the current interest in the state of the program. Here's a set of numbers that should give you a clue.
In the 2009-10 season, men's basketball at OSU outdrew women's basketball by 4918 per game attendance. That differential has dropped steadily each season and as of last season, the men's program only outdrew the women by 81 per game. I expect the women's program to outdraw the men's by the time the season is over.

If the team was coalescing they would be showing signs of better improvement and would have beaten Mizz St or A&M. They will get throttled in league play with this status quo.

MBB attendance has remained flat. WBB had nowhere to go but up after the 11-20, 2-16 disaster that was 2010. LaVonda drove people away.
As I said about football, there is much interest in the men's program. But many who still follow the team aren't customers anymore. The women are winning, so they will draw.

He needs to know when to go for the block and when to let it go. However, telling him not to jump when that is one of his strengths is ridiculous.

So how many more seasons does Barnes allow a mediocre coach to continue to produce mediocre results?
Past time for change in the basket program.

Too late.... I lost my s%#t (about the program) last year. I can’t seem to find it anywhere. I HATE losing my s%#t over things that are/were important to me.

I lost mine seasons ago. Still a proud Beaver, but men’s hoops has been a disappointment for a generation. I understand it’s tough to build a solid program in a traditionally strong conference, but cmon, we are just pathetic. I’m not asking for a perennial powerhouse, just respectable and in the dance or on the bubble most years. Good thing my kids went to Gonzaga.
