if you have one day left on earth, spend it at a youth volleyball tournament. The day never ends and you’ll live forever That's for sure!... and bring food. Well that's for sure, but have you ever been to a dance competition? Those are some long days. One of my daughter's High School dance competitions included me providing security at the back door from 8am till 10pm. Met a lot of dancers though, and wouldn't trade the time spent with the daughter for the world.

Horse shows! not as a parent but as a little brother. maybe two or three hours travel, eight or ten hours of different classes of horses, and then return. I figuered out quickly to be at a friend's house.

Hidalgo is better as a Fr. than Sherrod has ever been. I don't know about quickness, but just in terms of being a basketball player. If you want to talk about quickest/fastest player in the Pac 12, I think I'd put my money on Vieira from Utah, but she's never been a big scoring threat.

Are they flying out of CVO?

Best player comp for Hidalgo is probably sophomore year McDonald. Their stats are actually quite similar. Both 5'6". Both fairly efficient for small guards (~45%) putting up big scoring numbers. Hidalgo averages more steals and she's a better three point shooter than McDonald was.
I'd assume Rueck will try to make Hidalgo and inefficient volume scorer. Have to limit her opportunities in transition.

I still have a hard time processing how good Donovyn Hunter has been this season as a true freshman point guard.
But at this point in the season, she's not really a freshman anymore.

Are they flying out of CVO? I really like seeing Donovyn and Kennedie together. It gives me hope that both will be Beavers next year.

Donovyn was a good point guard last year as a senior in high school. She has developed to another level. So has Kennedie. Having a coach concentrate solely on the point guards, Martha included, has really paid off.

Ha! Yea, never assume I've got my days correct! The days all kind of run together. In this case, we really do have sports all day Fri/Sat/Sun...volleyball tourney. For those of you who know about club VB, it's allllll day in a loud gym. Good opp for me to put on my headphones, and catch up on podcasts while watching. if you have one day left on earth, spend it at a youth volleyball tournament. The day never ends and you’ll live forever Hmmmm... I'll counter that with youth swim meets! 😳

Yea, I'll be tuning in for sure!

If we can shoot...I like it. Hit the outside shot and force them out of zone. Run ND ragged and pile up fouls. Also, hard to keep a player like Raegan off of the offensive glass in a zone. If our shots are off or we are cold...it could be a LONG day. From what I’ve seen Lily doesn’t go “cold”. She is consistently hot when she has the time and space to use her normal setup and follow through. Her recent string of misses occurred because she had to rush her shots a bit. She will shoot her usual percentage if our offense can give her the right looks. One can see that consistency in warmups. Timea can get up the quick shot but it comes with a bit more inconsistency. I would have been more worried about our outside shooting if it had been Ol’ Miss because of their greater quickness and aggressiveness on D. When Lily has time to shoot, and she usually does when she's shooting, it always seems to me that her overall shot and stroke is as close to warmup shots as it is possible to be. No attempt at extra lift, no speeding things up, no putting just that little bit extra on it. Just nice and relaxed, like it's 6 minutes before game time, and she's just casually putting up a practice shot. That's a rare quality I think, and what makes her a good shooter.

Would almost say the opposite. Hopefully next year Shuler shows some signs of improvement to the point where when Donovyn is struggling or needs a break that you don't see a drop off.

Kennedie has been impressive as well, just needs more PT, and, during the off season needs to spend lots of time on her outside shot. But Kennedie has done a respectable job running the offense, and has played solid defense. I suspect Kennedie may see the floor vs ND for a spell to defend Hidalgo.

I am very intrigued by what Rueck has in mind. ND handled the team that seems the most similar to OSU in Virginia Tech both times they faced them, but really struggled with Syracuse both times they played. Losses to Syracuse, NC State and Louisville suggest they struggle with aggressive defensive teams, which is not OSU. They also handled Duke, who is more of an OSU defensive team (but more aggressive), but more offensive challenged as well (although less so than last year for them).
Hildago will be very tough, but OSU has faced similarly skilled players in Pac-12 play, particularly Sherrod in terms of speed and slashing ability and Watkins in terms of individual scoring ability. OSU needs to force Hildago left, which is what some teams have done with success. I also do like OSU facing a zone, because OSU is a good passing team and good at finding soft spots in the defense. But zones that get in passing lanes effectively will cause OSU problems as well. I'm curious about trying Hansford on Hildago; it seem like a disaster in terms of quickness match, but Lily's length makes her tough to shoot over, and she's so effective at blocking layups from behind that she's been pretty effective against smaller, quicker players. Hunter and Marotte are the obvious choices, but I am curious if Rueck tries Hansford as well. IMO we play Hildago straight up and make her earn her points over the top of the defense.
In general, I think:
- OSU needs to set the pace and NOT turn the ball over, especially in terms of TOs that lead to fast-breaks. - Raegan needs to be quick and decisive with the ball, anticipating where the zone double-team is coming at her and moving the ball to the zone's soft-spots. If she's indecisive and/or brings the ball down into the collapsing zones, she'll likely struggle with TOs. If she's decisive with passing from the block and her open teammates knock down shots, we can really exploit their zone. She needs to channel Gulich. -Force Hildago to be an inefficient volume shooter and struggle to get her teammates involved. OSU did that pretty against with Watson until late, and once her teammates knocked down big shots late. If she has a lower average scoring but high assist game, I think we are in trouble. -Crash the offensive boards; ND is not a great rebounding team, so there should be opportunities on the offensive glass. But we have to be smart there because once ND gets the ball, they will push numbers.
As Sweet Sixteen matchups go, this is not a great one, but not a terrible one for OSU either IMO. ND has been fairly erratic in terms of playing up to their level, but they are on a very hot stretch. If we win, I believe it will be because the coaching staffs do an amazing job with our defensive strategy design that is effectively executed and forces ND into an inefficient shooting night, while on offense we are patient but decisive at moving into and finding players in the soft spots of ND's zone and - and then hitting those shots! A hot start from outside will help make the interior less crowded for Raegan. If we are indecisive that allows ND to force TOs, it will be trouble.
