If you put Hansford in to shoot spot up 3’s, who do you sit? Since it’s “Monday” armchair time. I'll give it a try. First, some of the talk on this board all season has been about the growing awareness of the talent and depth of this OSU team, supported by the fact that the Beavs are rated 22nd (NCAA D1) in the nation for bench points scored per game (average 25+). This is the best in the PAC 12 and no other PAC 12 team is even rated in the top 50 (next closest PAC 12 are Colorado at 99th (20) and Stanford at 117 (19)). So there is that and it has been pretty consistent all year. So my question is what was the rotation during the season that made that all possible, and why did that change against Stanford? All kinds of reasons I'm sure. My armchair bit is that instead of trusting and continuing to tap into that strength, the more cautious and conservative path was selected, and that didn't work either. But we'll really never know! As one poster has stated (paraphrasing) We lost and so must move on. So who do you sit? Paurova comes off the bench. Timea is now starting and she was a big reason for the bench points being so high. To me, it's been obvious for the entire season that if Marotte is not hitting her shots you need to start thinking about bringing somebody else in. But Rueck keeps giving her big minutes because of her defense. It is what it is. And I don't believe bringing in Lily against Stanford would have made a big enough difference but I guess we'll never know.

Ok, since I've wandered off of the straight and narrow.
I will repeat myself. Tara V. said "we ran a bunch of screens and stuff to tire out OSU". Why would she say that? She's stupid? She's lying? She's just kidding around? Or the all time winningest basketball coach figured the way to beat the Beav's was to tire them out the day after they played a double overtime game? I'm betting the last option.
And someone needs to by Rueck a copy of Moneyball (book or movie). This "it feels right" stuff is for the birds. You choose what to eat for dinner because it "feels right", not refuse to sub. you team out and give them some rest.

You choose what to eat for dinner because it "feels right", not refuse to sub. you team out and give them some rest. The reality is that the Beavers don't match up particularly well against Stanford (which just lost the Pac-12 title game to USC, BTW). A few of the players just don't make a lot of difference against a team like that. So other than Lily, who do you play? And who can you play for significant minutes if the players are indeed getting tired? Paurova played a chunk. Who else? The Beavers lost three games to Stanford this season and didn't shoot particularly well in any of the three (under 40 percent each time). Throwing the ball inside to Beers and standing around on the perimeter doesn't cut it against them and Rueck did try to mix it up a little bit with Hunter and Paurova. But the shooting problems aside from one player (usually Beers, with TVO and Timea at times) has been a pretty consistent issue for this team. Just too much inconsistency.

Good comments. I see why Rueck made the line up decisions he did. I think they were sound, just observing as a 40+ yr fan of the game. Paurova adds a dynamism offensively when she’s on the floor that’s missing without her. She didn’t shoot it great, but lead the team in assists and had a way of making things happen when too often the offense tends to get stagnant. Pretty tough to send her to the bench to see if Hansford can make a 3.
AJ has a serious case of the “yips” when it comes to her shooting. Around 29% for the season in conference last I looked. I hope she gets it figured out. I always thought she’d be a 10+ ppg scorer eventually when she joined the team as a freshman.
Anyway, onward. Interesting to watch USC rather easily handle Stanford today. You never know with this game!

In the Stanford Game coach should have brought either Lily or Adlee in for AJ (for some of the minutes, not all of AJ's minutes). Nobody has called out that TvO could not keep up with Hannah Jump. I would have liked to see Dom covering Jump the entire time Dom was in the game. TvO got picked off on the screens and during the brief time Dom was covering Jump, Hannah had no space. Dom's quickness was able to get around the screens. And I would have had AJ covering Brook DeM...
On a different subject, if we end up in the Albany regional, I won't be completely bummed because we will be playing teams not in the PAC-12. I'm looking forward to OSU kicking a$$ against these other conferences. Although, I would prefer to see them play in Gill followed by watching our Beavs at the Moda Center.
Wherever the Beavs land, it is awesome that Beavs will be hosting. GO BEAVS!

Best of all is that the Beavs are having a really great year and I'm looking forward to what is coming their (and our) way next year.

BTW, as we continue to dissect the Stanford game, has anyone commented on Paurova's play when she turned on some kind of jet pack and rocketed by everyone from about half court for the lay-in. (Maybe there was a comment several pages ago.) I think it was in the fourth quarter, and I'm still in awe two days later.
I can't wait to see what she matures to in a sophomore season, not to mention the remaining games this year.

My point isn't that player x should have played instead of player y. It's that they all needed more rest and rotated them out so they could take a breather.
And yes, Dom shot her season average at the three, which is ok but not terrific. How about seeing if Lilly could shoot her season average instead of having Dom shoot it over and over?

Actually I think this almost 2 week break will be really good for our team after a rather gruelling but pretty successful Pac-12 season especially for TVO as she seemed a little banged up lately!

Which is why Rueck makes such a emphasis on defensive rebounding. And again, the defensive rebounding in the first quarter was good, and then went downhill from there....when they got tired.

Because Dom brings much more speed to the game and is a much better facilitator on offense than Lily is at this point. You want to sit someone for Lily, it's got to be AJ. I get where you're coming from but Rees was ineffective against Stanford in the first two meetings and Lily and Adlee didn't do much either. I guess Rueck could have played them (and Shuler) more to rest others and at least see if they would give the Beavers a boost but if they don't, then you're potentially in a worse spot. It's an interesting discussion.

Thank you Talia - from the bottom of my heart.

That accounts for 3 of 8 shots Hannah Jump made. Watching the game from my recording, TvO was a step behind Jump on many occasions and Dom was not. Jump only needs a fraction of a second to get a clean shot, and multiple times was able to shed TvO on screens. Not when Dom was checking Jump.
