I don’t see Martinez leaving this offseason. The money is out there and he’s been nothing but one of our biggest rallying points since late November. Even not playing in the bowl, all he did was keep talking up every new recruit and hyping coming back. I can’t imagine the effect he has had on us getting/keeping at least some of the talent we’ve gotten is a small one. I don’t think he will come close to the record. We won’t have him two years, unless he gets hurt. I don’t have anything to base this off of except my own logic and observation, but I would be shocked if he didn’t go pro after 2024. He’s big and athletic enough, and he knows he’s the man here. I can’t imagine he doesn’t see 2024 as a chance to positively blow it up and make himself a really good draft option in spring 2025. But that’s just my opinion. EDIT: the “3Nout” tag in his tweet reinforces that thinking on my part just a little… Yeah, I saw the 3Nout tag as well. Pretty sure that he means what it seems to mean. One more season with OSU and then on to the NFL.

I was wrong. With the steamrolling at the hands of Notre Dame and the exodus of a lot of our best players, there was a while there when I feared we would fall in one fell swoop. I didn't post about it, but I was definitely thinking that the collapse of the Pac and the departure of Smith was too much and a slide into mediocrity-or worse-had begun. I've always been a pessimist and my instincts took over. And then good recruits/transfers began trickling in before a flood. Same with good coaching hires. I don't know how the new coaches and players will work out, but on paper I've emerged from darkness. I am very excited to see what spring ball and then fall ball brings. If the results on the field resemble the results on paper, Bray will write his own narrative as a legend. Man you took exactly how I felt during this whole thing and wrote it down exactly. Great post. Thank you. That was nice of you to say.

I know this speculation will make people on this site go crazy, but I have this sinking feeling that Damien Martinez will not be on our roster next season. The NIL money that will be thrown his way, like Omar Speights last year by LSU, will be too much for him to turn down. Hope I am wrong. (BTW Love the job Bray and staff are doing in the transfer portal). At one point I thought Omar's leaving to LSU was largely about money, then after Smith and crew left something came out that completely changed my mind about the situation and Omar. In some ways, blood is thicker than money, and if what came out was true, I'm not surprised Omar left at all. Omar had forces pulling at him that few, if any, of our players over the years have had. It was talked about for all of a day or two here on the board, but it could have been a huge deal for Omar and his family. I'm not so sure how I would have handled it if I were him. Tough situation, and if true it makes me think less of the previous coaching staff. Damien is in a different situation, I'm glad that he seems to be happy here. I expect he's gone after this next season, but to the pros. He can potentially be a very good ambassador for the program if things go well after he's gone.

If what was insinuated in those posts were true about how they treated his brother, I agree. In large part due to my profession, but more so due to the expectations I have out Oregon State University itself and the behavior of it's employees. We only got a blip of part of a story, so I certainly am trying to be relatively open minded... but it is not a good look at all.

As you know, not all OSU employees meet the high standards we and the university expect. There is always a bit of truth in such revelations. But, we'll never know the whole story, and as fans don't deserve to. Bottom line he left for reasons the family believed were true. That's all it takes. But, any remaining parties hopefully learned a valuable lesson if they're is even a smidge of truth involved. Go Beavs

The way I look at these cases is whether it seems to be something that is more about the experience from perspective of an individual player or something that seems to be an issue that several players have taken exception to while at a school. No player has exactly the same relationships with the coaches, other personnel, teachers, school administrators, etc. I'm not saying that Omar and Jeromy and their mom are wrong about their experience or that it didn't happen. But we were getting the story from their perspective. It's not the first time players have left and been critical of the Oregon State coaches in the process. It won't be the last. But I won't be highly concerned unless an issue turns out to be something that seems to be more widespread.

Waylon was right. There’s one in every crowd. And three or four on message boards.
