Seems like 1 of 3 things with Jake - 1) seems to have lost his location on breaking balls 2) seems to have lost any action on his fastball 3) still figuring out the starter: closer roles / differences He will figure it out ! He is a smart kid that knows what it takes !

Today's positives...Frisch was outstanding. When was the last time we had a guy debut at 97-98mph? If he does not wind up being a weekend starter, our weekend starters are really good. Claunch...must have been a hell of a player who started in front of him last year. Murphy looked good out there. Ober on defense. Despite the score, it looked to me like the team was scrapping and competing. Losing a game in February is not a life crisis, it will be interesting to see what tomorrow brings! 2014 with Pomeroy and 2015 with Drew. Kevin Roderick was hitting triple digits as a frosh.....consistent high 90s.....location was a guessing game though.

Jake wasn't on his feed yesterday and Gonzaga came out swinging. GU hitters took an aggressive approach to the plate and it produced some hefty results with 10 runs and 17 hits.
Gonzaga is a good ball club, a worthy opponent that seems to notch some signature wins every year over Power-5 teams. Last year they beat Minnesota 6-5, Texas A&M 6-4, Utah 5-3, Washington 5-4, Washington State 8-5, BYU twice 3-1, 4-2, and Oregon State 6-3. They finished 2019 at 31-24 (18-9 in WCC), and defeated 4 PAC-12 programs.
They caught us a little off guard early in the season and we paid a price. That should serve as a learning experience and I expect the Beavs to bounce back on Sunday.

And... folks need realize what was returning and how much we need to improve, especially at the plate, to be competitive with upper echelon teams.
If I'm remembering we had no one returning hitting .300. Only one over .280? Then add frosh with no D1 experience. Add, that OSU is relatively very young on the mound it'll be a season of ups and downs.
Hopefully growth and confidence will be sustained before the Pac12 slate. I'd say 18-8 or better NC slate... 17-13 or bit better Pac12 (35-21 or better) slate, 3 seed and travel is a reasonable starting expectation.

Mitch is playing a lot of newbies, mixing in a lot of frosh pitchers, going to take a bit of time for the rotation to settle in.
