Early huge hole and bats weren't working. 10K and 3-20 with runners on. Just to keep you from being bummed, the late, great Sparky Anderson said he only worried about 40 games a year. No matter how good you are, you are going to lose 60. No matter how bad you are, you are going to win 60. The trick is to know which 40 to worry about. Today is over, time to worry about tomorrow.

We have some good strong arms on the mound. That’ll get us pretty far. Don’t sweat and don’t fret. We have a new skipper who is feeling his way with the team. Let’s see what tomorrow brings!

What did we learn so far? First Mully needs to head back the Pen behind a hard thrower. Most impressive guy on the Mound, Frisch. A bit early but it looks like the audition for Fri. Night and Sat. is still open.

Not our day. The Zags jumped all over us, and we were not sharp. Tomorrow will be completely different, but today THEY looked like the perennially top 10 program. Baseball is a funny game. This is not a top 10 team. They weren’t last year either. If they even host a regional this year, I would be shocked. We were for a significant part of last year, and unless you have ESP, I’m pretty sure you don’t know how good they’ll be by the end of this season. I would submit that there have not been 10 programs better than our’s over the last 15 years. “Perennial” was the wrong word to describe the general status of a top 10 team cumulatively over that period. Pretty early to write them off. You may end up being right in terms of outcome. There’s plenty of potential, but the “P word” means nothing if players and teams don’t do the work necessary and keep growing.

One great bat does not make a team.

Today's positives...Frisch was outstanding. When was the last time we had a guy debut at 97-98mph? If he does not wind up being a weekend starter, our weekend starters are really good. Claunch...must have been a hell of a player who started in front of him last year. Murphy looked good out there. Ober on defense. Despite the score, it looked to me like the team was scrapping and competing. Losing a game in February is not a life crisis, it will be interesting to see what tomorrow brings!

Night and Sat. is still open. One bad start is hardly reason to relegate someone who has been an effective pitcher for three years back to the bullpen.

Many arms haven’t even appeared. Way too early to say “shocked”, if they host. From here, they could win 35 more games...or 20 more games. Huge unknown. I’m waiting until at least after Mississippi and San Diego before reaching a level of expectation.

Not a great game to be at. 1/2 crowd left early. Grumbling about umpires. His strike zone was small. Their pitcher and their energy was far superior. I think they pitched their best pitcher as well. Hopefully we will get them Tomorrow. Right now not much to say. Left reliever in to long. Like 2 hitters. Beyond that some arms will be good.97 mph was cool to see.

Oregon State isn't alone when it comes to Pac-12 teams losing today Arizona State drops a game to Villanova, and are currently trailing lost to Michigan. Washington State loses to CSU-Bakersfield. USC loses to Western Michigan. Stanford drops their second game to Fullerton this weekend. Cal loses at Long Beach State. Not a good day for the "Conference of Champions".
But if there is good news in all this, that team to the south lost to San Diego.

Just said this is not a top 10 roster, maybe not top 25. Would never say fire Canham at this point. I thought Bailes did a good job with the roster he had last year.

Jake has been a consistent contributor for this team his entire time.He deserves the opportunity to try and figure into the starting rotation. If that's not in the cards then coach will find him his niche. Playing time is always dictated by performance.
