1st impression of the Mully starting experiment = not the answer to a reliable Saturday starter. 5-0 in 4th.

.533 batting against Mulholland for the Bulldogs. Damn. Nothing good about that stat.
Here comes Brown, a frosh from Salem.

JakeM has to nibble and he wasn't close enough to the zone today. When he has to bring it in, Jake has troubles. With no experienced starters, the starters will sort themselves.

Too late Nate strikes again? I have to say it. The worst pitching performance I’ve seen in a long time from the opening pitch. We robbed them of at least 3 hits with tremendous defense, or this would be worse, although it’s possible we could have gotten out of the first without giving up any had we not made a couple of mistakes on D. Mitch should have pulled him after 3. This is the same offensive juggernaut that scored a whopping 1 run against BYU yesterday. Every single hitter looks like a world-beater. You can’t work that hard for each of your 27 outs. Fingernails on a chalkboard kind of stuff. Our hitting (or lack thereof) has not helped us either. We look dead today. Kind of got started the second part of yesterday’s game. Just not battling like we should. We seem troubled by their guys 86 mph fastball (he does have a weird delivery), while they have taken batting practice with our similar velocity. Strange day. and very frustrating.

Jake M. was up and down last year, too. I was hoping that he’d have that sorted out for this year, but it looks like he’s still struggling. I don’t agree with pulling him after 3, but he did get into quite a bit of trouble in the 4th. Who could’ve predicted it? Our hitting seems less disciplined than in the past. But everything can turn on a dime, we just need to keep standing in there and giving it our best shot. Very frustrating? Yeah, but it’s early.

Re: Jake. Had some good outings as a closer. When you’re draft eligible and a 1st team all PAC-12 selection and 3rd team All-American AND you don’t get picked in Approx. 40 rounds (1200+ players), it TELLS you something. Here’s hoping he finds a very valuable role on the 2020 Beavs under Canham and Dorman.
