You'd never know from the majority of post game comments in the thread. I am pretty sure I have never seen a group of more bitter malcontents in the face of victory than I have seen here.
"We won, but Long Beach State sucks and we suck and we are gonna suck and all the Pac-12 is gonna kick our dicks in... Fire Tinkle"
For f%#*s sake...
A win is a win is a win is a win. Period. we are 5-1. 3-1 on the road. Why cannot people be happy for wins? it is mind-numbing and depressing.
I understand the state of Oregon State sports is not overly positive in many programs. The general mood is grumpy... But the role of a fan is to be a hopelessly naive optimist. Tinkle has had one disaster year, and 4 other average years. It ain't like we are in Anderpants territory here. Lets take a deep breath and just enjoy winning close games instead of losing them.
ENJOY THE VICTORY! We have enough negativity around the various Men's sports program that we can't be piling on with more of it despite a win!

Agreed. But a lot of people seek these boards because they want validation, and pessimists are more likely to need validation than optimists. Happy people don't much go around looking for other people to say, "Hey, that's so great that you're happy!". But grumpy people are compelled to share their piss and vinegar, in the apparent hope that someone might say, "Golly, you are so perceptive! You are so right to be depressed."

If you want to make that jump I'm thinking you want some validation about being negative toward posters being negative?? Damn confusing... Seems to be a large jump from the terminology of "pessimist" "optimist" and a message boards that state viewpoints. I guess in your "LaLa Land"... wins are always positive and no negativity can be mentioned? And for the poster who you agreed with... where is the fire WT post. I saw hypotheticals, saw questions. So, again I'll say my viewpoints on this board about OSU athletics are more valid than yours about other posters sharing viewpoints and the accompanying characterizations that are complete fabrication based solely on utter BS. Hmmm, which seem like piss and vinegar grumpy people?

So glad someone said this.....I watched that game yesterday and was actually mostly pleased with what I saw.....much better defense in general, and more patient passing.....they've played the last 4 games on the road, and we sit at 5-1. I love it....and that new big center changes things significantly also. I like where we stand.....maybe I'm delusional, it's happened before, but for now I'm content to optimistically enjoy watching this team.

Surprises me--nor most on here-- not at all you (of all posters) chose to address bennyskid's post as you have. Thank you 1111 for, if nothing else, being consistent. Cheers!

I was actually talking to a couple people about this right before the season started and was hoping that general fan apathy and discontent with the football program would not carry over into this basketball season. Two different sports and two different teams means it shouldn't, but it appears that so far this might be the case. The first two basketball games were horribly attended by fans and students alike (sub 4k both games) and the atmosphere was very poor IMO. With the pissing and moaning I've seen and heard from posters here and others I've talked to I am very concerned about what the home atmosphere is going to be like this year. Hopefully this issue corrects itself on Saturday and we see some butts in seats for a Saturday afternoon game.

Let's make a list of psychologists to whom to refer baseba1111 and his band of merry malcontents.

I thought the defense looked suspect and the offense lacked a floor general. WT is still yelling at his players all game long. But that is my opinion. I read others that thought the defense was solid and the offense was more in control. I like reading the perspective of others. Next game I'll try and see what they see. If the board was full of WT boosters who thought every game was brilliantly played and that we were going to win all future games it would be a pretty boring site. The negativity you cite comes from the teams playing poorly - not the fans being pessimists.

Go Beavers!

The negativity you cite comes from the teams playing poorly - not the fans being pessimists. I am not saying you are wrong, just looking for clarification.... why is this a bad thing? It would seem like to me that MOST coaches yell instructions at their players all game long. Even a lot of NBA coaches do this. IIRC it was precisly when CR STOPPED yelling at his players during games (sitting sullenly, watching apathetically) that we really knew that CR had lost the team. Granted when he did yell it wasn't very helpful ("MOVE"), but at least when CR was yelling we knew he was enganged and at least trying... We knew he at least thought he still had a chance at communicating with his players, instead of knowing beyond a shadow of a doubt that he had lost every single person on the team... List me as someone who moved from dubious before the season started to cautiously optimistic diring the vigin islands games to fully excited for Saturday's game! Go Beavs!
