Another thing I forgot to mention above... I only listened to the game and wasn't able to watch, so correct me if I am wrong, but it sure seemed like the "home refs" were putting a "thumb on the scale" for "The Beach" (Ugghh what a dumb nickname, and I am embarassed for Mike Parker for having used it a bunch of times). The stats bear it out with a foul shot discrepancy of 25 to 13 favoring "The Beach"... Refs and fouls and the like are a part of the game, one thatyou can't control but you have to deal with or overcome. Many times in the past Beaver teams have let it get to them, but not this team on Sunday. They battled through it and won anyway, so put that on the list of positives as well Mental fotitude is something that comes with experince and maturity, something we have been waiting for and seems to have arrived.

They battled through it and won anyway, so put that on the list of positives as well Mental fotitude is something that comes with experince and maturity, something we have been waiting for and seems to have arrived. Positives for me ET played well offensively. We should expect it, he is a great player. He found good spots on the floor and took advantage of all the attention TT and STJ were getting. KK is showing he not only belongs, but should develop into a significant factor on both ends of the floor. He is not going to be a guy we pass to on the post and he puts a move on anyone, but he is very athletic and positions well when guys drive and dish. I also think he is a guy well suited for the high pick and roll. I’ll be disappointed if WT does not work that into they game plan down the road. TT adjusted well in the second half and took what the d gave him. FTs were clutch at the end. Negatives for me Defense was not good. It was too easy for guys to get in the lane. Makes it tough on the bigs. LBSt also passed well inside (credit to them) and got a lot of easy buckets/fouls. TT early was forcing things. Their d was keyed on him and they had him scouted pretty well, taking away his left and jumping his spin move. I did enjoy one particular play where they took away his left, he went right and finished with a lay-in (their scouting was from last year!). TT has not hit his ceiling yet. He is going to keep getting better, especially if he starts using/trusting his teammates. It will create more space for himself. You can see what he is capable of in traffic, imagine what he can do given space. Offense still does not look in synch, just from a standpoint of getting ourselves easy shots consistently. It got better in the second half, but still a lot of trying to drive to the rim and draw the foul, or settling for late 3s. Without a true pg, I think it is up to TT to be disciplined enough on his drives to penetrate into the lane (not to the rim) and dish. This is unfortunate, only because I think he would be much more effective on the receiving end of those dishes from a pg. I really think having a true pg is the difference between us being top of the Pac and mid Pac this year. KK is the wildcard in this for me. If STJ and ET can get accustomed to finding KK at the rim like TT is, their drives will become a lot more effective too and open things up for TT, maybe we can be ok without a pg. AH needs to get involved early. I think they should have a few designed plays to get him the ball in scoring position early to get him rolling. With both he and ET we have special players that seem to be struggling with how they fit and I think it has to do with the past model being TT and STJ putting their head down and getting to the rim. To your question about home cooking. I do not think it was outrageous. We didn’t get a lot of touch fouls they seemed to get, but we didn’t do ourselves any favors by how easy we made it for them to penetrate.

Good insights, albanian.
I'm anxious to see how KK develops defensively. In the earlier games, he was pretty clueless regarding positioning and team defense. There was a visible difference in the overall defensive effectiveness when Big G was in, although KK makes the more spectacular plays. Did you see improvement by KK in that regard?

IMHO he is better than Drew in that he doesn't think he needs to block every shot and will occasionally lock his feet and play power post D. He seems to at times be out of position only in terms he has the expectation everyone else is going to play decent D. He seems surprised at times to find the opposition penetrating so easily, sometimes early in the possession. Offensively I think he is still quite tentative and deferring. KK seems to be unsure of what is expected and what exactly is "ok"/what his role is. I do not seem him being a black hole, and he hasn't had enough touches to see what kind of passer he really can be, but he has to be better than Drew in that area. I'd like to see some possessions dedicated to getting him involved in the offense and an inside out game these last 6 OOC contests. I think he'd pleasantly surprise and be an option Pac12 teams would have to game plan.

He has quicker hands and more of a coordinated reaction than you expect from a gangly fella. I think at this point he is getting flagged on some fouls that arent even fouls, just a reaction from officials that just see the ball getting redirected and assume some contact happened. As far as passing goes he has done a good job of waiting for the double team then throwing it back out to the 3 spotter. Sometimes he goes cross court with that pass which scares me a little but maybe he is utilizing his height for that. Really don't need him trying to get the Drew pivot dunk moves yet. That took Drew a long time to get and even then it was a terminus when it didnt work.

There was a visible difference in the overall defensive effectiveness when Big G was in, although KK makes the more spectacular plays. Did you see improvement by KK in that regard? I have not seen all the games, just the home games & LBSt. Jon Warren guided me through all the others, so I’m not 100% sure what happened in those games (I’m teasing, I actually think he offers pretty good play by play. I would prefer he not give me any stats, instead of what he does with them.). Pretty small sample size, but will say he certainly didn’t look lost against LBSt, but also, far from dialed in. His biggest challenges are defending guard/wings running freely into the lane or baseline and being pushed out of position. He can’t fix the first; STJ, ET, and AH shoulder that blame in my eyes. As far as positioning, I would like to see him be able to stand his ground a couple feet in front of the hoop. It seems to me he gets pushed under the basket a lot, so ends up having to come out for shooters. Again, such a small sample size, and it’s not like I’m 100% keyed in on KK, so don’t give this too much credence. His athleticism for a guy his size is impressive. We all should be optimistic about the player he can become. Regarding my perimeter d comments, you can give that a lot of credence, as I’ve been watching that for a couple years;).

Back to the original post... For some Oregon State fans, if the team doesn't win by double digits, they basically lost.

Hopefully sarcasm as no knowledgeable OSU hoops fan could think that as wins are tough enough. Double digit wins?! No one has that expectation even vs LBSt. Would be nice, but not expected...
