I was very frustrated when Reid got put back in the game mid second half. I saw I was not the only one upset. Gary Payton from the stands yelled "what's that guy in the game for" and threw his hands up. They had a technical issue in the game so I had the chance to rewind it and its very clear. This has nothing to do with the tripping incident at all, I have just never been a fan of Reid's game and feel like his man is constantly getting wide open dunks and he is constantly never able to finish around the rim when he gets nice passes. The free throws hurt bad tonight on that stretch where we tried to run away with it.
Im not some guy who is going to sit here and lie and say im some ex college player or high school coach. With that said maybe i am missing something but I honestly do not get what Tinkle thinks he brings to the game. He will make a nice pass here or there but alot of turnovers as well. If someone could tell me if I'm Completely off and he does do things I am not noticing please let me know because I just don't see it and would love someone with more knowledge to fill me in? ??

I was pretty down on Reid until the last 5 games or so. Not so much now. He's been playing within the offense of late and I'm not seeing he's as bad on D as some claim. There was a complaint about a 9-0 run when he came in this game but I think it was 3 quick 3 pointers that had nothing to do with him. He is good for a crucial turnover or two a game and that is frustrating, but so are several of the other kids.
I liked some things he did this game, wish he hadn't double dribbled... He got his minutes today, maybe Coach T wanted his size at the time. This team doesn't have a true power forward, he's about as close as they have.
As far as free throws go, Payton missed several... should he not have been playing? I place free throws as a separate issue most of the team could use improvement on.

He is a horrible defender and rebounder. Watch how many threes they hit when Reid was too slow to get out there. He hustles but is slow and can't jump. And comparing him to Payton is a joke. Payton can miss free throws and still help the team. Reid can't. The elder Payton is right on.

The simple answer is that it's either him or Olaf at PF, and he's less of a defensive liability and attacks the rim on offense. Even when he's bricking FTs, he was getting them into foul trouble (ultimately helping foul out their best rim protector) and getting us into the bonus early in the 2nd half.
I'm sure Coach Tinkle is tempted to go small, but without one of those guys in there, we're not just small, we're light - and that's not a good mix. On paper we have a lot of size, but we currently have 4 guys on the roster that really can only play the 5. We need Tres beyond the arc, as he has been deadly, and doesn't have the bulk to play the 4 yet anyway. LMW is the next closes option given his bulk, and he's undersized even at the 3.
In general, understand your frustration with him, but this game was one where I thought he did more good than harm. Only one TO, didn't take bad shots (1-2 from the field), and provided a more stable defensive presence that Olaf.

That's a shame because both are usually liabilities on both ends of the floor and neither can rebound. But I agree....Reid didn't hurt us as much as Olaf lol

Depth... guys need a blow... who else is there? Tinkle obviously didn't think Big G is an option. CN is no help except picking up fouls not creating them. And no Gomis.
We're two years away from having a rotation of bigs and smalls. Have to utilize what we got.

Reid/Schaf 44 minutes.....2 rebounds and virtually no D. You may as well go smaller if they can't do better than that. Also, Big G deserves more PT w the bar set so low. BTW, count how many open treys we gave up when Olaf or Reid didn't guard their spot. Check how many dunks happened w Olaf near them and didn't even try to block it. When was Olaf's last block shot lol?

But, as with the others, they are who they are. They ain't changing now. And if you're a believer in this team as "dance" worthy then you'd better be rooting for them. Cuz without them the curse lasts another year.

Lol you put far too much power in the effects of my beliefs. They hurt the team and we win inspite of them. MD indeed had an off game, but he contributes more often than those 2 and at least he plays D.
We are who we CHOOSE to be. We could go smaller and better (better than TWO boards lol) but we don't. Hopefully we can overcome their shortcomings and make the tourney. Great win tonight w Stevie bailing us out!

He brings some toughness - maybe only compared to Olaf, but nonetheless. Didn't watch the game at all and see DrEu had 13 rebounds. Did he turn a corner?

JR kept Drew fresh and out of foul trouble. Olaf hit two big shots. At one point over the last month MD had more to's/fouls than pts/assists/reb. But either way we need more than those guys are giving.

Great point. All three need to do better. I think LMW and Big G could help by getting more PT

He brings some toughness - maybe only compared to Olaf, but nonetheless. Didn't watch the game at all and see DrEu had 13 rebounds. Did he turn a corner? Drew had his best game state wise. "Turn a corner"? UW switches every pick, so Drew had 6 off.boards with a lot of smalls guarding him. The same on his put backs. However, he did make some nice moves/footwork. He did use his body better and had some nice pins. And he had a couple blocks under good body control. He still needs time to learn how to use his feet and body more effectively. Our offense didn't help. We don't flash to the high post enough when our bigs get switched. We have some easy high low action, but rarely utilize it. UW is super talented. Two of their frosh are top 30 NBA picks... and hopefully leave. They really only have one true post. The other two think they are Rasheed Wallace, attitude and all. So Drew faced a nice mixture of tall athletic bigs and more than held his own.

I appreciate all the feedback. I completely agree and appreciate his effort level and i think he has a good attitude with his teammates. So all though I'm not a fan of his Game I can at least find some positives about him that are not talent based.
I completely agree that defensively olaf is in the exact same boat and you guys are completely right in the fact that we really have no one else at this point in time. I like our recruiting class and like the fact they grabbed a jc guy to bridge the gap with our lack of bigs but I really wish we could grab 1 more big man in the class because i think of the 3 we brought in 1 is a guard and from what i have read and seen in video the other two are long and athletic but not as much of a physical/bruiser down low. Maybe big g slaps on a attitude next year and comes out as that guy but that's probably unlikely. I think a true physical 4 that is strong enough to finish those AND 1 type dunks our bigs struggle with could help this program so much. Kind of like a Devon C. He could not shoot a lick but he was a bulldog Around the rim and converted on alot of dishes down low that our bigs struggle with now. Im just not sure we improve much down low anytime soon from what I see on hand right now and coming in next year. Eubanks is pretty good and could be a stud if he keeps progressing but I'm not sure there is much else and as someone else said it's nice having Tres playing at the 3 since he can shoot. I just hope he does not get stuck down low because we have so many good guards but no bigs.

As a side note, Cameron Oliver, the guy who committed to Craig Robinson but then ended up at Nevada is listed at 6'8 and 225#. He is averaging 8.6 rpg and against UNLV had 21 boards and 14 pts. I know the competition is down a little in the MountainWest, but holy cow. I don't know any of the details regarding why he never attended here, but we could use a guy like that.
