Yep... I was witness... and, also saw them steadily improve in their mechanics. Some coming during their summers. Believe it, or not, Nate isn't the only influence on OSU's pitchers and their development. Sooo.... s-can Nate? Your vaunted analysis after watching this club the last several years is we need a new pitching coach? gmafb And in reading my posts that's what you got? That's a you problem. Kinda like "it's been a long week" excuse. 😜

Unless this game turns around we will have a 3-5-1 record on Sunday so far in PAC-12 play. You can get thru the season winning the first two game and winning the series but that will not be enough in post season. Have to be able to win the third and fourth game.

Beavers in the eighth
New pitcher for Troy
Casey grounds out to first, one away Kwan line drive to second, two away Grenier walks, and unless OSU can mount a rally together its the end of his hitting streak Madrigal grounds out to second
6-0 Troy after 7.5

If you look at the SC staff (stat-wise...and stuff wise as well), their pitcher today might be their best starter. We know our best starter is our Friday guy, 2nd best is our Sat. guy...and then ( ). So the match-up on the mound favored SC from the get-go. Then there's the little blunders that the Beavs have made all day...starting w not having Grenier bunt in 1st inning...then Kwan's poor jump, then Larnach's bad read and even worse jump on the catchers muff...Abel's error on the bunt...all the way up through bad cut-off positioning. And it actually has been a long 'week' - 8th game in 10 days.

Won't be doing PbP during the UCLA series, or during the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday games in regionals and supers.

Beavers had their chances to get the lead by getting the leadoff runner on base during the first part of the game. Whatever happened, the Beavers didn't score and that contributed to the loss today. I don't care who you play, if you miss your chance to score runs early you will probably end up on the wrong end of the score. Getting a lead, especially on the road, makes a huge difference. Missing a chance and the opposing team keeps feeling better and better after getting out of the situations.

I just flushed that toilet so it's on to the ucla series now with no midweek games to contend with.
Go Beavs!

Won the series. That's the objective. Today was disappointing but if the Pac-12 is as tough as we want it to be, so we can get a national seed by finishing first or second, then road sweeps should be very infrequent.
PS: Unless they are going to Team USA, where innings are minimal, most OSU pitchers do not play summer-league baseball, and haven't for quite some time.

Today was a cluster, but I don't blame Abel. I thought he did a descent job. He should have been working with a lead in the 5th... whole different mind set on both side. Offense did not help him. I think we can get 4-5 good inning from him. After that, its pull him as soon as he gets in trouble. We don"t have anyone that wants to be the set up guy. if we don't get 7+ great innings from LH and BF the bats better be active. About the time I get confident SC happens

About the time I get confident SC happens he was much more solid today. Yes he got raked in the 5th and then his composure wore out but he looked more stable in his mechanics until then. It looks like he just needs to fill into his body a bit and add strength/stamina. Can't fast forward the progress. It just takes time.

Just think they tried to squeeze a little more out of him. As pitching goes, better too soon than too late. Running themselves out of the first couple innings hurt. A 1-0 or 2-0 lead changes the opposing pitching and mind set.
