Beavs go up 6-5 on SF. What’s with T. Smith? pitcher gassed....nearing 120 pc ....and working on a 13-hitter. just glad to be here? It's not broken (yet) so they aint fixing it? Deal with the devil you know? cliches are my friend. flip your question on the beavs- how many pitches from Pierce before you cash him in? He has looked good but he is definitely spending himself fast. Pierce averaged seven innings per start at SWOCC last season. He has what it takes to be a starter, and might be next year, but right now he is our most important right-handed bridge from the starter to Mulholland. He comes in and throws strikes, which Abel (right now) can't be trusted to do.

Thank you Mr. Pierce... and Jake... 5 IP of 1 run ball with 6 k's and 1 BB... a decent 77 pitches. And UW getting swept(maybe... was 5-1) today by WSU... 4-1/5-4... in B9 right now after a 2 run HR. WSU trying to "coug it"... HBP, sac bunt... runner at 2B ties it... And... they do... tied... error allows lead run to 2B! ...and "coug it" they did, with a flair perhaps never previously achieved: With UW having tied it up, WSU brings in new pitcher (runner on 3rd). 1st Pitch by new pitcher - wild pitch. Walk Off win for UW. All told, in the B9th, WSU guilty of 2 wild pitches, a hit-by-pitch, an error. B9th began with a 4 pitch walk. UW scored 4 runs on 3 hits for a 6-5 win.

We can't point fingers! Our 8th inning against Arizona leading 5-2 they tie it up on one hit. We almost blew last game leading 4-1 and not removing our pitcher before he walks 5 batters in 1+ inning. Yeske needs to have a quicker hook especially during this time of the year.

Yeske needs to have a quicker hook especially during this time of the year. Otherwise someone is going to give him a nickname like "Too Late Nate." Or two time National Pitching Coach of the year Nate - right now he and Casey are trying to find some people who can fight through and establish themselves. It might cost us a few losses mid season, but I am more interested in how well people end up throwing in June than late April.

I knew that was coming (2 time National Pitching Coach), but I am willing to bet he won't be in the top tier this year. I see no improvement this year in fact our pitching staff is really struggling. It doesn't help the team or the pitcher to leave him in there when he might be responsible for losing the game. That is a negative vibe. We are in the last 3rd of our season and fighting for the league championship and home games for the post season. Now is not the time to see if he can fight through it and see him get beat up and cost his team a win, league championship or a home game for the playoffs. That does not help your confidence.

We would never be able to run out a starting pitcher ever again. We might as well forfeit the season.
It's also a negative vibe if you don't let your pitchers try and work through some struggles. Pulling them after the first sign of trouble does nothing for their confidence either.

It would be interesting to see how much success other teams in college this year who lost a first-round pick and a fourth-round pick in the 2018 MLB draft from their 2017 starting rotations are having this year. I am sure they all had immediate replacements to plug in who have performed at the same level as the draftees who left.

Given the Beavers lofty position at present, I think it’s appropriate to try/test young pitchers in challenging situations right up to the start of the Regionals if need be.
Sure it’s better to get it all programmed out by April 1; but it just didn’t happen this year like that. As I recall Fehmel didn’t become a part of the 3 pitcher rotation until May of his freshman year (due to staff injury)...
heck, maybe Burns or Pierce will find themselves in a new role by the Stanford or UCLA series?? Pat doesn’t recruit junk.

This pitcher has had previous control problems prior to this game. The "First SIGN" of trouble was the previous inning in which he walked two batters. When he walked the first two batters the next inning that should have been enough to relieve him. Instead they leave him and he walks in a run. Something like 9 straight balls. Sorry I know that "Nate is Great", but that was a mistake which we got away with. The Arizona fiasco we didn't. It does not benefit a pitcher to let him get beat-up like that. I am not question their ability, but a mistake is a mistake.

Not sure WTH you are talking about. He did not walk the first two batters in the fourth.
Leadoff single, F-7, walk, F-9. Had two outs and runners on first and third with the No. 9 hitter coming to bat. Every indication he would get out of the inning. He did not, and Pierce was in the game after three more batters. Not sure how fast you want him to get ready. And if you get him ready and then don't use him, it's counterproductive.

It was the next 2 walks (on 8 pitches) that really led to problems....but even after those 2 walks, the score was still 4-2 Beavs - with 2 outs. At that point, Canning singles in 2 runs, tying game. Next hitter IF popout.

Beavs had some shots on Saturday that were nailed, and then flagged down by an otherwise iffy defense, like Nick's bullet that would have cleared the bases and given the Beavs the lead (which would have bought Jake in to go for the save), but on Sunday, they were finding the gaps (when they weren't clearing the fences), and Jake came in to close.
