If is name was Wally Billton, no one would have ever let him near a microphone. Now that's funny

Heard from a family member of mine that he had some of the fans behind the announcer's table angry and in tears it was so bad. Made references to Portlanders being basically red-necked hicks that needed more beer. It was awful. Snowflakes. Could very well be - Portland does have more than it's fair share. Still doesn't change the fact the BW's commentary during the game sucked the big one. Was glad to mute the TV, then put it on Wheels and Rice (it is still Wheels and Rice, right?). Kinda like I prefer home cookin' Mike Parker.

To each his own. Bill Walton is awful. Didn't like his constant political blathering in the dead fish wrapper back in the '70's (shut up and dribble) - don't care for him now. I really could give a rat's ass what his political views are. I listened to him announcing a Trailblazer game recently, he couldn't wait to trash the Blazers at every step of the way during the game, even though he won an NBA title with the team. Heard from a family member of mine that he had some of the fans behind the announcer's table angry and in tears it was so bad. Made references to Portlanders being basically red-necked hicks that needed more beer. It was awful. No fan of the city of Portland these days, but even Portland deserves better than Bill Walton. All of you on here can continue with your bromance with the guy, I can't stand him. Oh, and by the way, he can blame the team doctor all he wants for his season/career ending injury while in Portland, it was still his choice to play injured - and he wanted to at the time. Then, he comes back and blames the team, as they should have supposedly restrained him and barred him from playing. Riiiigggght. Never did care much for the "shut up and dribble" notion. Strikes me as being un-American (anti-First Amendment). It also directly contradicts your opening sentence "To each his own" How would any of us feel if an aspect of our employment became a defining limitation on our humanity? For instance if you are a grocery store clerk by occupation, and you express a political opinion to someone at the tavern after work, would an appropriate response be "shut up and ring up those prices"? Nope. Well said, Ricke.

Ever see someone so upset (angry) that they "are in tears"? I have - far cry from "crying" as you describe it. Since "reading is fundamental", you might enjoy reviewing the thread. Already said I got the info from a very reliable source - I wasn't there personally. But, think what you wish. I did listen to part of the game commentary - BW, and his cheese-dick commentary are lousy. He got in plenty of digs on Portland and the city. Digs at the Trailblazer management. He said that PJ Carlisimo got hosed when he was in Portland - whether true or not, appropriate thing to say while calling a game in Portland? Stand up guy, right? You like him? Good for you.

I made no judgement in this thread about Walton. Keep grasping though because watching you flail around is entertaining. You’re making s%#t up. But yes, people might get angered to tears. I’ll stand by my point that you cannot understand. Getting that angry from a basketball commentator = snowflake.

I guess you cannot separate an observation regarding human behavior at a basketball game in response to bad commentary by BW and support for said behavior. Never said I supported the behavior, only it was an example of the effect BW has on some people when he is announcing. I agree their response is over the top. The original thread point was BW sucks as an announcer. You either agree with that, or not. You aren't going to get any argument from me that letting BW get under your skin to that extent is ridiculous. Kinda like screaming at the sky on the one year anniversary of the election this past November. Hilarious.

PJ didn't get hosed, he got choked - not sure that Blazer management had as much to do with it as his player's vote of confidence.

PJ was coaching the Knicks when he got choked, I believe, but there might’ve been a kerfuffle with Darius Miles when he was with the Zers

I'd lIke to hear the actual quote of Walton calling Portlanders rednecks that wanted more beer... I could see someone saying Portlanders know a good beer as a compliment (when I've gone to other parts of the country I've run into a lot of "rednecks" that don't... just trying to get a good IPA in east Texas or western Arkansas 3 years ago it was pretty much impossible) and it being taken the wrong way by someone who doesn't know the difference.
