First... BW is fine... but you Rach their own. There'd be less announcer free lancing I'd there was any basketball being played. It was pretty ugly. Second... scanned the posts so could habe missed it? But, in all the BW biotching no one calls him out on his saying Sitton being from Wilsonville?? 😁 I believe Charlies current address is in Wilsonville...

Unfortunately BW was talking about development talented basketball players... ZR... then tied Charlie in. Charlie was "developed" in Mac... maybe "wandering Bill" got his villes confused??

Count me as one who dislikes the "shut up and dribble" notion as well.
I mean, what maybe 2% of us on this board played college basketball? Maybe less...and we're all on here telling Bill Walton and Wayne Tinkle and everyone else what they should do on the sidelines or on the court, and then we're going to tell them to stay in their lane? Nobody's telling us to "shut up and fix my wifi" or "shut up and re-roof my house" or anything.
Bill is unique, and he is 100% Pac-12. I like Lamar Hurd because he's unique as well. Nobody in color commentary these days is bringing the same youthful exuberance to the mic. He knows his x's and o'x as well, but it is his delivery that makes him special. Same with Bill Walton. My eyes can tell me what's happening on the court. I don't need Bill Walton to tell me that Tres Tinkle's body language isn't good, or that Noah Dickerson is big and strong....I can pick that out myself. What I need is Bill telling me that Dickerson's wide stance when setting a screen is reminiscent of Larry Craig. THAT is something I'll remember from the game.

To each his own. Bill Walton is awful. Didn't like his constant political blathering in the dead fish wrapper back in the '70's (shut up and dribble) - don't care for him now. I really could give a rat's ass what his political views are. I listened to him announcing a Trailblazer game recently, he couldn't wait to trash the Blazers at every step of the way during the game, even though he won an NBA title with the team. Heard from a family member of mine that he had some of the fans behind the announcer's table angry and in tears it was so bad. Made references to Portlanders being basically red-necked hicks that needed more beer. It was awful. No fan of the city of Portland these days, but even Portland deserves better than Bill Walton. All of you on here can continue with your bromance with the guy, I can't stand him. Oh, and by the way, he can blame the team doctor all he wants for his season/career ending injury while in Portland, it was still his choice to play injured - and he wanted to at the time. Then, he comes back and blames the team, as they should have supposedly restrained him and barred him from playing. Riiiigggght. WestlinnPatrick....... that you? How'd ya sneak back in?

It's always fascinating that people can watch the same game and come away with completely opposing opinions. I didn't think he was trashing Portland at all. He trashes bad basketball play on the court, that's never been an issue. And come on: fans "in tears it was so bad". lol okay, sure.

I love Bill Walton. One of my all time favorite basketball players. He loves Portland, but is critical of bad basketball playing. My favorite from last night after Thompson missed a free throw...Why can't he make freethrows...he sure doesn't spend his time working on his defense or passing. Absolutely hilarious!! Sorry, but he was stating what alot of us were thinking. Now how many announcers would say that. Bill is overboard sometimes, but he is truly a real gem.
My all-time favorite from Bill was when he was playing for John Wooden and Bill was a all-american and told John that he wasn't going to cut his hair that it was way to express his beliefs. John told Bill he admired and respected him for saying that and the team was going to miss him. Next practice Bill had his haircut!

I was bummed with Drew only added one fish to his aquarium (BW speak: made one of two free throws in clutch time).

Then, he comes back and blames the team, as they should have supposedly restrained him and barred him from playing. Riiiigggght. Never did care much for the "shut up and dribble" notion. Strikes me as being un-American (anti-First Amendment). It also directly contradicts your opening sentence "To each his own" How would any of us feel if an aspect of our employment became a defining limitation on our humanity? For instance if you are a grocery store clerk by occupation, and you express a political opinion to someone at the tavern after work, would an appropriate response be "shut up and ring up those prices"? Nope. I find it amusing that some in our society (the PC crowd, mainly) want to restrict the free speech rights of those they disagree with - in other words, they are all for free speech, as long as it agrees with them (see Berzerkely). As in sports, call it fair and straight up. You may not like voices on the other side of the political spectrum, but either both sides need to button it, or all voices have a right to be heard. Don't like Milo? Don't go and listen. Burning down a campus for a voluntary event is nonsense BW is entitled to his opinion, and he is more than free to express it. What bothers me is when people use their position as a player or former player to voice their opinion, as if somehow, someway the amount of money or fame they have makes their opinion more valuable. The sports section of the newspaper is (should) be about sports - not politics. You want to voice your opinion? Buy your own damn newspaper. And yes, at least for now, employers do have the right to limit free speech while on the clock. Could care less what BW says in a tavern after work - but the sports section of the paper, or on a hot mic at a Blazer (or Beaver) game is not the place.

Waltonisms from last night: - The great Charlie Sitton, from little Wilsonville Oregon.. - Drew Eubanks gets another fish for his tank! - You ever been in a Maori war dance? - Drew is a MAN AMONG MIDGETS - Alfred Hollins is no relation to the great Lionel Hollins. - Oregon State needs more players like Gary Payton, Brent Barry, Dave Gambee and Jose Ortiz!! - Something about the great Mike Parker and a song lyric... - Many, many things about Mike Hopkins. - Maybe my favorite, as we go to overtime: "The fate of the world is in the known balance." Tres limping around resulted in: "Durability is a key basketball ability...." (the .... indicates he then went off and talked about how something like 7.5 of his 11 NBA years he did not have that ability himself). (And hope Tres is OK tonight, both his ankle and his shooting touch - both were not in good shape last night). Go Beavers!

And, to be more clear, I am not sure the reference of people being upset was that specific game, I would need to get more information

First Jon Warren, now Bill Walton. Who cares? It's just an announcer.
