Last night was a picture of reality for this year's team. "We are who we thought we were" feels like an appropriate summary of the season to this point. Soiid, well-coached and capable of beating all but a couple of teams in the country when we're dialed in. Definitely a top 20 team, probably stretching to think top 10...THIS year.
Having said that, we are capable of making a run in the tourney, and I believe that we'll be a tough out for most anyone. Not bad for a transition year. Rueck seems tio develop his players very well, with Marie being a wobderful case in point. Her improvement was awesome. We''ll her for sure, but I'm really stoked for the future of this program.
Go Beavs!

They have a chance of making the sweet 16 but the problem is consistency on offense and defense. They are up and down from game to game. They are capable of anything game to game. Too may games where they have to make a comeback in the second half after digging a hole in the first half. They did quite well to win a lot of those games. It finally caught up with them against ASU. From my prospective, it will be tough, not impossible, to make it to the sweet 16 they way they play. There have been very few games this year where they have played consistently well all game.

Honestly this was a GREAT "transition" year. I know a lot of people said last year was the transition year but I could never count that team out with the seniors they had. This year was a challenge but Marie played like an All American the whole year and made it incredible.

ASU had to lose to OSU two times before they decided to try stacking it inside against Marie. Here's to hoping the first couple of teams OSU plays in the tournament go straight up so Marie can smash 'em. If we get some 3's from Tudor and Taya hangs in there concentrating on rebounds instead of looking for 3's I think the Beav's can have a decent run in the tourney.

I'm just glad we don't have to play ASU again haha! Even in our two wins they gave us fits.

It is quite simply a matter of which team's we get matched up with in the first 2 games. Today, Charlie Creme, ESPN, has OSU as a 5-seed, and has us playing Ohio State in the 2nd game (assuming both OSUs win their 1st game). Now that is a match up that I would love for the Beavs. Another bracket I saw has Texas A&M in our 2nd game, and that would be a much tougher game for Oregon State. We won't know until March 12 where the Beavs play their 1st two (2) games, but without question, the game film from the last OSU vs. ASU game will be in the hands of our competition. Rueck better be prepared for teams to double team Marie, and, crash the O-boards. Basically, being physical with our BIGs. You could see which kids were ready for the big time in the last game: Pivec, Katie Mac, and, surprisingly, Aleah Goodman wanted the ball. TC, Kat, and MW, were not ready for the big time. Lastly, Rueck needs to have Taylor Kalmer in the game when we need someone to create off the dribble. TK is our only player (maybe Aleah) who can create their own shot off the dribble. TK needs to be in these games.

That is a bold prediction. If we're a legit top 20, maybe top 10 team, why is a top 16 finish so "bold"? Maybe "bold" was too strong of an adjective. Polls are one thing, but there is also the RPI that has us rated much lower. It's obviously my opinion but I'm not bullish on this team's outlook for the tournament. Prove me wrong!

Just because the NCAA uses it, doesn't make it legitimate. "Real" computer rankings like Sagarin and Massey have us at 13/14. This team could catch fire and zoom to the final four, or it could fizzle out and go out in round 1 or 2.

I think the most important factors of going into the tourney is how good the team is playing. Going in "hot and on a roll" is critical and it doesn't appear we are doing that (except for Marie). Hopefully we will find our "mojo" and play the best we have all year. Saying that the ucks are peaking and I truly hate it.

Rueck has got to get his players to play more physical if the Beavers are going to get deep into the tournament. Think Bre Brown physical. Marie Gulich needs help on the boards from whomever is playing down low with Marie. That is a MUST. I thought our biggest challenge was turnovers (still too high) but the ASU games showed me giving up offensive boards is our #1 challenge at this moment. Our 2nd biggest challenge is not getting enough of our own offensive boards. The good news is that we have this extra time to prepare. I think Rueck will have his team ready to compete. I really want the Beavs to either play more zone defense, or, be OK with switching on defense. I can't count how many times the pick & roll has resulted in the Beavers giving up big baskets to our opposition.

It's obviously my opinion but I'm not bullish on this team's outlook for the tournament. Prove me wrong! I will decide to be bullish or not based on what our first matchup and potential second matchups looks like..... There is a certain kind of team that we can stay even with on rebounds, can create open looks on the perimeter with, and go inside once the outside shot is there with (or vice versa), that doesn't have jitterbug quick guards to plague our sometimes suspect ball handling that I really like our chances with - and then there are ones that have the heft and wherewithal to get very physical with Marie, rebound aggressively, make bringing the ball up the court an adventure and stay with our outside gunners that will present more of a challenge. And you get through one or two rounds of the tournament and *all* of the teams left basically possess those qualities. We get on a roll, who knows? We get one of those solid all-around teams early and we might be done in short order. I also hope our team is POed about our Seattle showing. I will either join you in the "not bullish" category or start thinking about the Sweet 16 once Selection Monday has come and gone...... Go Beavers!
