Whoever said Grenier has no holes at the plate clearly isn’t paying attention. Also, let’s not forget Madrigal won defensive player of the year last year. Obviously you equate "no holes" with... high average or not striking out. I'll leave you to diagnose in you're expertise and go with mine (and those of lead scouts) in baseball. Barring injury, I’ll gladly bet that Madrigal goes higher than Grenier in this year’s draft.

signs that the 2018 Beaver squad is endowed with an embarrassment of riches: a.) fans get to discuss WHICH of their very fine middle infielders has the edge in regard to xyz... b.) 2-year starter (and very good player) Kyle Nobach might be the underdog for a starting OF job.
3 days from now we’ll actually be able to discuss game action !!

Other than slot $ draft position means very little as it is driven by team need/draft order, and that team's determination of a players advancement timeline. But, even though as earlier mentioned the Cards were playing slot $ games, Caden could have been the 23rd overall pick. He and his family set the signing bonus high because they thought OSU was in his best interest. Still drafted again in the 21st round. Nick and family also made it clear college was a priority, but ZERO teams called to offer a 1st round pick scenario. Drafted in 17th rd. Highest I heard of a team considering Nick is in Rd 5. Again, Nick is good. Nick had/has more hype. But, as one scout says, "he's never going to develop into a Pedroia"... which everyone likes to compare him to. Where Caden is drafted will not purely depend on which is the "better" player. They're both high quality college players. One just has more upside.

Other scouts see Madrigal differently and do point to Pedroia as the current MLB player he most projects to, as he grows and matures. Time will tell.
Either way, Nick and Cadyn will both get their shot, with organizations who will have something invested in them and thus give them time to develop.
The Cardinals also drafted another shortstop by the name of Henry Skrimshander, out of Westish University. But he was only offered $100K as a junior and turned it down.

The 5th round is correct for Madrigal's appraisal coming out of high school. He was supposedly near his potential. Now he is projected as a first rounder, and people are again saying that he has topped out. Lol.

For me, the Winter Olympics has been a slight distraction and in a small way squelches the normal excessive anticipation of the season opener. USA! USA!

And scouts are never wrong......sincerely Mike Piazza.
Also, I hope Nick doesn't turn into Pedroia. I rather see him turn into Altuve.
I get that you think Caden has more upside.....but I wouldn't bet against Nick.

...and scouts are never wrong, signed Billy Beane.
But I suppose that all worked out OK. Of course he coulda chosen Stanford instead, and developed w/o all the pressure. Who knows?
Can’t help but think that big time college baseball is generally a whole lot better than bus rides and burgers for a talented 18-20 year old.
I’ve had the thought many times that Wallace to Barney to Canham, which will live forever...would be a mostly forgotten moment had it occurred 10+ years ago in Helena MT during the Pioneer League championship series.

Getting back to the home run numbers for a moment, I have a friend who is seriously into watching the team this camp at Goss, and he said that Nobach has bulked up - pumping weights while rehabbing from his injury. Says the kid has some tremendous power - 3 might be a bit on the low side if my friend's assessment is accurate.
