So what if Nall gets drafted by a team with a solid O-line, all he needs is a real gap and he can be a serviceable tail back, tho I still think H-Back is his spot. 2 inches taller and he would be a coveted tight end.

Nope, I agree. His stats were good and he was not harmed. He was just not HELPED. he is not going to be one of those NFL combine wunderkids. that turns heads and flies up the boards. Basically, he walked into the Combine and showed all the scouts he is exactly what they thought he was. I have to say I DISAGREE. Nall did NOT go into the combine and "show the scouts he is exactly what they thought he was". They THOUGHT he was a 230 lb, slow, white kid at RB who needs to be turned into a FB, TE, or H-Back in the NFL. What he showed at the combine is that he's got VERY good speed for a player his size, and the agility to be drafted (likely in the later rounds) as a legitmate NFL RB. He's basically fighting the same kind of battle that Lamar Jackson is fighting: Not fitting the mold of what NFL teams expect a player at that position to look like. I dunno, I will say I haven't really dug deep into evaluations, but the handful of scouting profiles I have read all mention he is fast, a downhill runner and a great finisher. They all mention impressive agility for his size. I haven't seen a single one that knocks him for speed. His downside is being a longer strider means he needs more space to get up to speed, and he doesn't make a lot happen between the tackles with moves. He lacks "burst". Where Quizz was EXPLOSIVE but not fast... Nall is FAST but not explosive. Victor Bolden had the same problem. FAST, but long strider, "dead" feet. doesn't have the quick, tight movements. Lets be honest, we saw this with our own eyes. We all saw Pierce can more of a short area burst than Nall had. I think his NFL profile is pretty spot on. a "takes what is blocked" runner. that isn't necessarily bad, they are just saying Nall doesn't create much either. They credit him with being a hard tackle, breaking arm tackles, lowering shoulders and all that. That is the reason they project him in a FB type role. Not because he is slow, but because he is best served on the direct dive style plays. following a pulling guard, shooting up the gap on a trap block. They do not project him to be a guy excelling in between the tackles zone running. Nall will get drafted. I think he will. but I think he gets drafted because he is a sure fire special teams contributor AND a good RB prospect. His size and general athleticism means he is low risk, high reward. even if he doesn't cut it at RB, can can contribute on ST.

Unless I'm looking at it wrong Nall's 60 yard shuttle time was very good, 2nd among running backs and beat a lot of the wide outs. Doesn't look like a lot of guys chose to run that, any idea why?

I wish Ryan had been targeted more in the passing game.

Basically, he walked into the Combine and showed all the scouts he is exactly what they thought he was. I think that the 20 yard time is a bit of an eye-popper. He may not have wiggles but he does have a freakishly explosive start/stop. Those kind of soft hands with that ability to glide behind blockers and then the jets to get that big body going downhill... picture him getting swing routes and outrunning a LB on a wheel with ease. Wonder if NFL strength training makes him into a Brandon Jacobs type RB. I could see it. That would be a great goal... that guy was a stud/anomally... 6'4.25", 267lbs, ran 4.62/4.53... rated the 11th best back in '05 draft, 4th rounder I think... over 5k yards at 4.5/carry... 60 Tds... solid 9 yr career. BUT... scouts will tell you the only metric with any true correlation to NFL success is the 40 and the adjusted 40... the vertical is next... the rest are just "numbers" to NFL folks. Can't find the current article by a former scout, but this is a 2008 breakdown... www.espn.com/nfl/news/story?id=3337822Nall's adjusted is fairly good and predicts being in an NFL camp... but his prospectus is 6th Rd or lower as a "gets what's blocked" type of back. Actually if you watch our games Nall is pretty much exactly that... if a play was blocked he excelled. But, Ryan isn't one of those guys who creates a lot of something out of nothing plays. Wish a could a should a... thought Ryan would be a top 3 rd choice IF he'd stuck on the D side as a LB.

That endorsement alone causes me to reconsider.
Of course GAG never moved him to the defense, so there is that........

Is it fare to loosely compare Nall to Toby Garhart?
Here was the basics from Toby's Combine.
Pre-draft measurables Ht Wt Arm length Hand size 40-yard dash 10-yd split 20-yd split 20-ss 3-cone Vert jump Broad BP Wonderlic 6 ft 0 in (1.83 m) 231 lb (105 kg) 32 in (0.81 m) 9 5⁄8 in (0.24 m) 4.50 s 4.25 s 6.94 s 38 in (0.97 m) 9 ft 9 in (2.97 m) 20 reps 30 All values are from the NFL Combine
Toby had more success in College.... but I think we would all agree that it did not transfer as well to the NFL as many expected.
Not trying to be negative.... just the thought/comparison that came to mind today and when I googled Toby's combine numbers.... seemed very similar to Nall.

Toby Gerhart had a 6 year NFL career and gained almost 2500 yards from scrimmage, which are results pretty much ANY team would be ecstatic with from a 6th or 7th round draft pick. But, I'm not sure why we necessarily have to go back to Toby Gerhart. Why not choose Matt Jones from the 2015 draft? 6'2-3/8", 231#, 31.5 vert, 4.61/40, 4.2 shuttle, 9'4" broad jump, 3rd round draft pick. You can basically go through each of the 8 NFL combines since Gerhart was drafted and find an RB whose numbers compare as similarly to Nall as Gerhart did in each year.

I seem to recall Mike Riley also saying that Nall would be a good LB as well...am I wrong on that?

I think Riley said he’d be a good LB/DE/TE/RB and they spent a portion of his redshirt year trying to figure out where he could be used best before deciding on RB
