It would be a great addition to the squad if the beavs could sign Cameron. From what I've read about her she appears to be a perfect fit with our program. She is unselfish and very loyal to her friends and teammates. She chose to play on the club team with her high school teammates instead of going to the best team.
I just hope she doesn't go to either tennessee or the *ucks.

Two years from today she will still be playing ball in high school...So it's definitely a down the road deal. Nevertheless, what a great talent she is and will be....
Oregon produces a very small number of elite WBB players - so it would be absolutely great if the Beavs could keep her at home....

I have a question for the group concerning recruiting.
Am I correct that during the Coach Rueck era the Oregon State women's basketball program has not been able to recruit a significant number of black players?
I am sure outstanding black players are being recruited because we have had a limited number of such players during the past few years.
Is it the same issue that seems to often come up in other sports that the Corvallis location of the school is a definite drawback?
Are there others that feel as I do that it will be difficult for OSU women's basketball to be as good as it could be without a more significant black presence on the team?

Oregon State under Rueck has recruited a significant number of black recruits. 2 of the 5 starters on our final 4 team were black. 2 of the 5 starters on last years conf championship team were black. Next year's starting 5 will likely have 3/5 black players as starters (at 1, 4 and 5 positions). I think your concerns are unfounded.

I doubt that race has any direct influence on who is recruited. I know of several players that were recruited. There is a major difference between recruiting and signing.

He is not wrong 2/5 starters were mixed race. One mixed race starter now and two next year. Corvallis is a very tough place to get inner city black athletes. Nothing about their culture is in town. Food, clothing, hair care, etc. Look at our most successful sports at OSU. Baseball, Gymnastics and wrestling. They are predominately suburb kids. If you know any head coach at OSU he/she will echo it is hard to recruit Africa American athletes to Corvallis.

Maybe you should ask Breanna and Deven and Destiny and Gabby and Taya whether they think they are black? Good luck with that. By the way we've had great African American wrestlers, gymnasts and baseball players as well as white ones.
Well you're the same guy who thought Mark Barnard was a terrible hire for the Volleyball program. So I'll take your comments with a big grain of salt.

Btw I couldn’t find good hair care in Corvallis and I’m white.

I don't know what any of this has to do with Cameron Brink.
It's clearly not a "black" thing - Scott gets plenty of black girls, but almost all come from suburbs and smaller towns. If you are looking for "urban" girls . . . well, Corvallis is about as far from the inner city, culture-wise, as it gets in Division I.

Maybe it could be the style of play. How many "playground" players concentrate on defense? I'd bet a vast majority of them are more into offensive prowess. Or at least the very little I've seen have been. It has very little or even nothing to do with race and more to do with location which influences race.
Looking at the social media of two of the last recruits to sign elsewhere makes me wonder if they would really have "fit" with the team.

It’s not Pullman, Moscow, Missoula or Salt Lake City either. Bottom line. Scott and his staff know the kind of athletes it takes to compete and win. He will sign them. Race will not be a consideration.

Does anyone ever complain about Arkansas or Mississippi State or Alabama or.... Not having enough or even any "white" players?
Just wondering.
Or just stirring the pot.

Arkansas, Mississippi State and Alabama Women’s basketball all have multiple white players. Therefore no one ever complains about them not having any white players. Happy to help.

To quote a Seinfeld episode, 'should we be talking about this?' 'I don't think we should be talking about this.'
