I think the interest level in this article will be (rightfully) lower than what is transpiring in Eugene later today, but OSU gets a reference in the article about Crescent Valley vs. South Albany: Raiders needed every one of those makes to keep pace with Mayhue, who connected on eight 3-pointers en route to a season-high 45 points. Mayhue, a senior point guard and former Oregon State commit, played all 32 minutes for the third straight game. The article later goes on to mention Montana as well. I wish her the best.... Go Beavers!

Any kid that can score 40 plus in a 5a game with many other high scoring games is good enough to play at OSU. She’s a natural scorer. Did OSU lose interest in her, or the other way around?

We'll never know the full story, but based on the timeline it appears that Destiny Slocum and Jazz Simmons took Katie's spot. Katie has had multiple 30+ point games, and is certainly among the top players in the state this year. I believe that Scott sincerely wanted her, but next year's roster will have 13 players, only two of which will be seniors. Scott has said many times that he doesn't like to have more than a dozen on the roster.
Katie looks a lot like Taylor Kalmer, so let's use that as a basis for extrapolation. As a freshman, TK averaged 6.8 minutes/gm, playing behind Gabby, Syd, and fellow freshman KTMac. How many minutes would that same player get next year, with a roster including Destiny, KTMac, Mik, Kat, Aleah, Jazz Simmons, and the senior version of Taylor?
Not many. Given that our coaches have contacts at Montana, I imagine that he felt that sending her to Montana was better for all involved.

It was Katie's connection to the Montana coach that for her the offer, I doubt OSU had anything to do with it.
OSU pulled the offer according to the article written right after it, they pulled the offer in October and Katie had to hustle to find another offer. It would have been nice for OSU to give her more notice. It also appears that she was caught off guard by the decision.

I work with someone that is the Mayheu's neighbor, per my co-worker OSU told Katie they had too many guards next year and she would not get much PT. Unfortunate they moved from out to state (I think Wyoming?) so they could be close to watch her play as a Beav. Best for both, wish her the best with the Griz.

The former. Family moved out here to be in OSUs backyard. I know a few things not worth gossiping about that would suggest that she may not have fit here. She’s a good player and I hope that she has a nice career at Montana.

All whispering, innuendo and gossip notwithstanding.

Let’s just say that style of play or ability wasn’t the fit issue, and sometimes new things surface over time - all whispering, innuendo and gossip notwithstanding.

I do want to be clear that I’m not saying that I know what role “fit” might have played in Katie’s offer being pulled. Scott is way too respectful and professional to talk about that around us fans, and my guess is that the main issue was that we will be heavy with strong guards next year and moving forward.

I think Scott and his staff do due diligence before offering scholarships. And if you can’t say what the supposed “things” are you should just refrain from casting aspersions. Its very unfair to Mayhue (if you care about such things) and it doesn’t make you look very good either.

Take a breath. Breathe deeply. Get a grip.
All programs offer more schollies than they can honor. OSU is no exception.
Guesses are cashed in, gambles are won and lost. Some scouting reports are framed and some are burned. Some players grow, some players plateau, some players regress...
Calculating what a 15 year-old h.s. sophomore will turn into as a 19-year-old U. frosh is three parts skill and two parts luck. If you think this is the first mistake Rueck made you're simple. If you think it's the last you're even more simple.
If not signing Mayhue was a mistake you have 3/4 years to know for sure...If you're right call back then.

Scholarships being rescinded and recruits being told they won't get playing time happens all the time. What doesn't happen all of the time is the recruit moving to be closer to the school before signing. That is the only unfortunate thing that happened as the result of committing to the Beavers. I am sure the coaches didn't encourage her to move closer. That was a family decision that didn't turn out they way they wanted.

I'm not criticizing Scott or Mayhue.
