Came from a musical family and supposedly had a high aptitude. As a kid was kind of forced to play piano, violin, trombone, and cello in that order. Always wanted to play drums but was browbeat into not wasting my potential on a "non musical" instrument. Bought a kit when I was in high school and was mostly self taught. Played in a number of bands and won a battle of the bands at the MU when I was a freshman. Started playing guitar later on so I could suggest song arrangement ideas to prima donna guitar players who didn't like the idea that a drummer was more than a metronome. Still have a drum set, some hand drums, and a couple of guitars and amps. Don't play as much as I should but will do more if I ever really retire. I love the cello.

Here is a nice little piece by a youngster playing a 3/4 size cello. Starts about 2 min in.

How did we get this far on the Bmoby memorial page talking about musical instruments with NO mention of the skin flute ?

I played trombone through college. Played at many football and basketball games. Thought I might be a music major until about 10 minutes of music theory class cured me of that notion.
Still play occasionally in worship band. Wife is a music teacher (plays loads of things) - 5 of our kids played instruments: trombone, trumpet, sax, cello, & french horn, - we make a pretty nice band!
Cello was the favorite instrument for the kids to play --- soothing to hear practice.

When I was in fourth grade, all of the fourth graders were called to what was called the "Big Gym". Those of you who attended that particular elementary school will know of what I speak. We all sat on the bleachers while some outside folks administered some sort of a mass hearing/tone test. Most of us were sent back to our classrooms. An hour later some kids came back with musical instruments. I was not one of them.

My undergrad is in music ed from OSU. Played trombone as my major instrument, including OSUMB, jazz band, symphonic band, and some small groups. I also play piano/keys and can manage to sing on pitch occasionally. Thirty years later, I barely play anymore. I do sing in a 50 piece 4-part men's group just for fun.
