It's no surprise to me that a struggling 4 star recruit left Tinkles team. If you don't start and struggle the few times you are in you will never get any time again regardless of how tres and the Thompson brothers are playing or whether they simply need rest. What's Wayne going to do when he can't recruit a coaches son. Credit him for going to the zone and giving the team a better chance to be in games, but offensively, well he has shown that he does not knows what he's doing, no ball moverment, too much dribbling , forced passes, lowest scoring team in conference play. He has some talent on the bench, not great, but with some more time they could be serviceable. We will never know. Yeah. WT is not a good hoops coach. I don't care WHAT SUCCESS he may have enjoyed at Montana. The X's and O's just aren't apparent, I'm sorry to say. Since he isn't a good basketball coach, he'd damn well better be a great recruiter.......He isn't that, either. The team is improved over last year, no question, but that has more to do with a healthy Tre than it does Tink's coaching acumen. Nice fellow. Not the answer OSU needs, sadly.

Expect to lose and you'll rise to your expectations.
I sincerely hope that the players and coaches believe they can win any game and also expect to win any game.
We as fans should expect the same thing.
Would I have been satisfied with a road split this weekend? Sure. That is 2 pretty good teams down in Arizona.

OSU had lost 14 straight road games coming into this trip.. they were playing 2 TOP 20 teams on the road.. ask yourself honestly what were your expectations?.. did you realistically think they were going to win either game?.. Its easy in hindsight after watching 2 games where they had chances to win to question moral victories and being competitive as good things Do our expectations really matter? Yes they do matter because they can change during a season.. You might expect your team to win 5 games.. but they exceed that and win 15-20 games but along the way you go from being happy and excited they exceeded that to thinking they are a lot better than they really are when the bar you set at 5 wins is exceeded early on in the season. However your bar as a fan is then raised and you get down and upset when they "only" end up winning X amount of games and feel they underachieved even when the original expectation was for 5 wins. Might not make any sense but just my point of view .. you may not agree

Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. On the road against 2 ranked teams? In my book, at this time, if you expect the Beavs to win you’re setting yourself up for disappointment. Hopefully soon that won’t be the case. But for now? Probably is. It’s a long way to the top if you wanna rock and roll.

Just because you don't expect a win doesn't mean wasting opportunities is ok or excusable because of fan expectation. I'm sad when I see poor execution, especially by our coaching staff. I'm sad when I see out talented teams play their heart out and 3 potential Ws are losses in large part because of coaching deficiencies. If you don't think winning at an undisciplined, poor defensive, 1-3 ASU... or expecting player development and wins in maybe the weakest Pac12 in years is unreasonable then GA was prob your type too. My expectation is that the 4th year of a program should have recruited bench depth that had been developed to help win close games... home and away... But, again... it's just my opinion.

Once again, some of the opinions (criticisms) on this board drive me absolutely nuts.
#1 Tinkle and the coaching staff can't develop players is the stupidest idiot argument I have ever read.
#2 What will happen when Tinkle runs out of coaches' kids to recruit?
#3 Tinkle can't coach the x's and o's.
So Tinkle and his assistant coaches can't develop players, and yet 3 of the best players are sons of Tinkle and Thompson Sr.
Do you think they had nothing to do with any of their kids development? (Including Tinkle's daughters who played at Stanford and Gonzaga.) Are all of these kids talents achieved in spite of their fathers?
Has anyone noticed how far Eubanks has progressed since his freshman year? Do you think the lobs, post ups and jumphooks are just happy accidents?
Where in outerspace do some of you really come from?
The only real criticism I can relate to is at times we see a bit too much dribbling and not enough passing, but I saw that with some of Ralph Miller's teams, and currently I see it with Scott Rueck's team.

Some people here don’t seem to realize what a mess of a program Tinkle inherited. He inherited 6 scholarship players, the top scoring one averaged 4 points. Now it’s 4 years in and people are going nuts over 2 close losses that could/should have been wins against top 20 teams on the road and saying its 4 years in and we should expect nothing but greatness. Here’s what I expect 3 and 4 years in... I expect the team to have a player or two in a leadership role that were recruited by the previous coach. That’s how it usually works, in this case Robinson left Tinkle with SQUAT. Take a look at Robinson’s last full class of recruits, which should be playing this year. None of them played 1 minute of ball at OSU from what I can tell... and people complain about Tinkle’s recruiting. Now I can understand Chai Baker, health issues happen, but that whole class was essentially AWOL. We didn’t have any Robinson recruits in a leadership role last year either.
I’m going to flat out say it OSU is not a school that can bring in a “Fab Five” and do amazing things day one, as far as I know that’s only been done once pretty much anywhere. Apparently OSU/Tinkle has chosen not to go the route of bringing in kids under rape investigations and multiple 1 to play 1 transfers, unlike TSDTR, to bring in an immediate fix.
This week’s losses of games that could have, perhaps should have, been wins is disappointing for sure. There is little shame in going into a top 20 team’s home and losing closely. Disappointment yes. This team is improving. They’ve shown improvement over the course of this season. Hopefully they can learn to win thos close games against higher rated teams.
To those who say this is Tinkle’s fourth year so expectations need to be high... so far only his third recruiting class is playing and the previous guy left nobody to hold down the fort. You say it's Tinkle’s fourth year, but he’s only coached 3 of the kids two and a half seasons, everyone else a year or two less. There’s a disconnect in the 4 year logic.

Does everyone realize that we haven’t beat a top 25 team on the road since 1985. Yes, even Ralph couldn’t do it in his last 5 years. This team is improving. Hopefully, we can get over the hump.

I am absolutely certain of very few things in life.
But one thing I absolutely certain of; What I want to happen or think is going to happen in any given game has no effect whatever on what actually happens.
And I’ve known that for a long time.

I was amazed at that fact. January 1985. AC Green, Steve Woodside, Darryl Flowers, Eric Knox, Darren Houston (I think off the bench, injured a lot), and I think Lorenzo Romar was Washington's star player although Detlev Shrempf and the other big German center (drawing a blank on his name) were in that era also.

And the Beavers had both Gary Payton and Jose Ortiz, both 1st round NBA Draft picks, playing together at one point during that time.

Stop playing aggressively on O with over 3 minutes to go--yo-yoing the ball on top, perimeter ball movement only playing not to lose and ALL on coach. Took less than a minute for that 5 point lead to go away.

Keep defending this poor excuse of a coach who has put together the worst scoring average team in a very weak Pac-12 and guess what? When the rest of the conference tide rises, our program is going to drown. I am fine with giving a coach four years. Tinkle has had that and so far this customer is not satisfied. Argue with me all you want but you won't change my mind. Badly played basketball makes me sick and this edition of Beaver hoops rates with the flu that is running around these days.
