I've been waiting to post this until after the Taggart news was official. It's still not official from FSU or the ducks, but I think it's pretty much confirmed (based on the lack of denials) at this point. Too bad what I've been waiting to post is now relegated to the Rotating Tap board, where only us wandering few will see it. I think it's relevant to college football in general but I guess it doesn't fit the rules for the main FB board. Last week, when I was looking for sources of some sort of reliable information on the whole FSU/Taggart thing, I found the twitter page for FSU fan and online "radio" host FSUEyeDoc. He had a tweet that was 100% guaranteeing that Taggart was the next HC at FSU. This tweet was later linked to the Benny's House FB board. The more I read this guy's tweets the more I became convinced that he had some really, really, really solid inside info and that he generally tried to only post what he felt was reliable information. Other than what he reported as a last-minute (Sunday) attempt by some deep pockets at FSU to block Taggart and have them go another direction (Charlie Strong?), he never wavered in his stance that it was going to be Taggart. He also reported the contract would be 5 years at $5M/year, so we'll so how reliable that turns out to be. At any rate, the most interesting part of all this was watching/reading/hearing the duck fans and media interpretation of Taggart's comments over the past 5 days. It was strange to, on the one hand, feel like Taggart was likely gone and, on the other hand, see how the fans/media could hear only what they wanted to hear when Taggart spoke. When Taggart had the press conference last Friday to supposedly address the rumors, he never once said that he was definitely staying at Oregon or that he had signed the contract extension with Oregon. And yet some duck fans threw the press conference up as proof that FSUEyeDoc was 100% wrong. What were they hearing? Did they really believe that Taggart had just put all the rumors to rest or were they purposely lying to themselves? Then, even stranger, the always-reliable FootballScoop (LOL) had a headline on Saturday night that said, "Willie Taggart tweets that he's staying at Oregon". This based on this tweet: "Looking forward to a great day tomorrow with our team. Practice, find out where & who we play in the bowl game, 2017 Team banquet and then back on the road recruiting. Go Ducks!" WTF? How is that Taggart saying he is staying? All it said was that he was currently the coach at Oregon and fulfilling his duties as the coach. It said NOTHING about him being there in 2018. And yet, duck fans again threw this up as proof that FSUEyeDoc was 100% wrong and that Taggart was definitely staying in Eugene. I guess we all do this. We hear what we want to hear. It was fascinating to watch it happening though.

This is one of the few times I can say that I miss Giansante. Would have been fantastic.

Mullens addressing the media you say?? I am getting my popcorn ready. Educk is pretty roundly calling for his head on a pike - their tears should be delightful.

Along with that classic reference, I will give my best paraphrase to that anonymous contributor of this gem: "You know, it's kind of funny. I mean we have all of Phil Knights money, all the new facilities, all the new uniforms and stuff, and we really haven't done anything."

I don't read educk... why do they want Mullins gone? He seems to have been a very good AD, and it wasn't his fault Jimbo left for a crazy contract and that FSU just happened to be Taggarts "Dream Job"... I mean he tried to throw money at Willie, and that didn't work... What else did they want him to do?

Stuck in the bubble of belief that Nike money will buy a culture of success at the game of college football. It has never dawned on any of them that it might not be that simple. There are other forces in play besides the advantages of money and bling. It's why they play the game and why champions win and prentenders go home. They don't get any of it AND I LOVE THES GUYS

I wonder which is true? Or maybe the success that Oregon has had in the last decade+ is because of hard work by coaches and players on the field Pac12 Championships Rose Bowl Champions Fiesta Bowl Champions BCS Championship Game First College Football Championship Game It is kinda amusing to think that both OSU and Oregon hired quitters. Although Oregon's quitter at least had a winning record.

I live in Eugene, listening to local talk radio a caller was appalled that Willie would leave Oregon for more money.
Found myself scratching my head, how have they built up recruiting to Oregon? Wasn't it by getting mostly Nike Money and building, building, building better everything because they can't actually legally pay the recruits to come here? On top of the Nike unis and gear, the xbox a the locker, the list just goes on and on.
They have recruited players who are interested in material things, and a coach who will leave for more money.
And before you ask.... yes, I'd leave for more money to as one of the factors to consider so I'm not judging I just see the hollowness in the criticism of Willie when the entire program is built on getting more money and passing it along via the perks. Yes, this is the way of College Football now, but you can't blame the coach for going after what we are anticipating is a bigger contract in a state with warmer weather.

Congrats if you avoided that way of thinking.

They weren't even meaningful conference titles. USC was hamstrung by sanctions and UW was in the crapper. The best want to beat the best not slide in the back door when nobody is looking. You'd think the ducks would have learned after the first time what happens when you play around with a Willy. Taggart did manage to give us one final gift however. Would be great if someone here could put together of an audio of him saying "the oregon ducks are excited for the vegas bowl".

You quoted a statement and left out the context in which it was made. If one of the traditionally lowest funded teams in the conference (us) were to win a title through any means we'd be happy clams. Absolutely and rightfully so. We don't declare ourselves "elite" with every breath. If on the other hand we dumped hundreds of millions of dollars into our program, recruited illegally, had the full power of nike behind us, and touted ourselves as an "elite" program, most would want to face and defeat a full power USC team in the conference title game to prove it. Not duck the traditional conference powers. Most would want to defeat a strong versus weak UW team to get to the title game. PLaying an unranked 6-6 UCLA team without a head coach in the title game not nearly as impressive as a 10-12 win USC team wouldn't you agree. Playing a 10 win Arizona team who had already beat you on your home field was a better test, but all it did is tie the series at 1-1 on the season.

Teams don't get to determine the rest. As previously stated... give us a few Pac12 titles then we can sit around break them down as to which was the best, most meaningful, lucky, etc. But, titles we'd all take.

They figure no one else was coming to steal him - so RM should have waited on the big contract extension. They have also piled on saying WT's buyout was too low giving him an easy exit path. Some seem that think he should have seen this coming and should have pulled the new offer.

Extending Helfrich too early, making it easy for a career vagabond to vamoose!
