Well we have a new head coach. Welcome back Mr. Smith. Coordinators are important for any head coach, but for a first-timer like Niner they will likely be make or break. So who would you like to see as coordinators? I don't have enough knowledge about assistant coaches out West to hazard any guesses or have much of an opinion. Any of the knowledgeable posters want to put together a wish list? I will say that I do not want to see DE as OC. Some kind of role would be fine, but I just don't think it is healthy to have a guy as your OC who a week ago was sending up trial balloons about being HC and having you as an OC/coach in waiting.

I'd be OK with DE and/or MR having a small position in the program, but they should not be coordinators, probably even major postion coaches. It would look like JS is leaning on them too much even if he weren't. If they come in, it should be as support staff.

While I agree that I don't want DE as OC, do we know for sure that he was campaigning to be the HC, or is it possible, he was campaigning for JS and was letting OSU know he would be in JS's corner to help him along the way. Canzano has gotten his information wrong before. I have no doubt that Erickson met with OSU (or their search contractor) but I am not convinced he wanted to be the HC.

Either way though as far as I'm concerned role for DE fine, but not as OC.

We should pry Keith Heyward from Oregon. It hurts my soul he coaches there. We should grab Trent Bray from Nebraska. That ends my ex-OSU player list. OC? DC. jeez I would have to think. I just don't know. that is the $64,000 question.

You can't give them a coaching title in anyway. They would just look like the shadow coach and undermine Smith. Executive strategic adviser of football operations or some nonsense like that.

Heyward, Bray and DeVan ALL need to come home!!! And how's this for an outside the box OC.... BEAU BALDWIN Save some money by only paying JS 1.8 million a year or so and have plenty of money to pry away great coordinators... Think Beau would say no to getting out of the bay area and 1-1.2 mil a year???

I would not be surprise to see it 2-2.5 million a year. that is just the going rate.

Petersen extended him and gave him a huge raise instead of letting him walk or move on.

Any chance Lubick would come down as OC? Currently coaching receivers, and served as DB coach and recruiting coordinator for a couple years when DE was head coach I believe. If so, would we be happy with that? He is known as a good recruiter...
