I’m not down on the hire, but Why did we pay a $200,000 search firm to do this...idiotic

We were authorized to spend UP TO $200,000k to the search firm. We have no idea how much was actually spent, or what they money that was spent, was spent on.

not sure but why do people spend money on expensive lures or other gear? to try to land the trophy fish... the search firm is due diligence to effectively see what they could land IMHO and I think we should appreciate that they made some efforts to try to get good coaches to come take a chance at our bad situation we have right now.

kerry eggers @kerryeggers Report from Football Scoop that Beau Baldwin will be @beaverfootball next coach is erroneous. School is in middle of interview process. Baldwin has NOT been offered the job. Dec. 3 remains target date for hire, but it’s possible it could take longer. #GoBeavs 10:27 PM - Nov 24, 2017

Seems like the rumor would be a major distraction to the players the night before the game...that's quite a downside, if it is.

Those are all from the same source which Eggers says is wrong and that he errantly posted.

It's a crap shoot people - Florida thought McElwain was the guy. Arkansas thought Bielema was the guy, A@M though Sumlin was the guy, hell Nebraska thought Riley was the guy and on and on. Many of you are down on Baldwin because he has never been a P5 head coach. Come to think of it neither was Casey or Rueck until given a chance.

Heck, recall when Les Miles was mentioned in a tweet and it was getting picked up by everyone? Someone is either jumping the gun, or pulled something out of someone else's ass

Lol... equating Casey and Rueck hires to this is very far fetched. Baseball was considered an afterthought for the most part. Jack had some good years and the program was successful earlier, but was a very minor sport. Casey to a mediocre North division baseball squad from Fox was a typical move and with over 300 D1 jobs happened often and with successes. The OSU WBB program was in shambles, paid very little, drew no national interest. The fact that both have been so successful is truly amazing, but an outlier, the exceptions not the rule, not a hiring model to live by in hiring the most important job in the athletic department.

Several years ago I was watching the evening news and it was announced that Wisconsin was hiring Mike Riley. That rumor was all over the place. Nowadays everyone wants to be first. It ain't over til it's over.

Yeah, Canzano (no I don't care for his articles but....) just put up an article on O Live talking about how the university shot down the "rumor" about Baldwin as soon as it came it. Canzano made a good point that unfortunately, I think might be true. He thouight that the immediate redaction of the "rumor" was basically because it was put out before the CW. So basically, it's true but the university didn't want it out yet?! Who knows?! If that is the case, the university will look pretty ridiculous in my eyes. Sounds like a "nothing to see here" at a crime scene type of feel. Lying doesn't look good on anyone! Go Beavs!

Yeah, no schools and/or coaches have ever been anything but forthright regarding coaches hirings in the past.

I don't disagree with you, baseball, but I think the argument ISN'T that it's a guarantee Baldwin will repeat what Rueck and Casey have accomplished, RATHER that it's erroneous to use the fact that Baldwin hasn't been a D1 HC as a reason he is more likely to fail than succeed.
