Since he is obviously a candidate, this podcast recently came out and I just listened to it. Some parallels between what he took over in Hawaii and what we are facing now. This is lengthy but shows what makes him unique to the rebuilding efforts. No coach in America is as tied into the recruiting grounds of Hawaii and Samoa. Worth the listsen: thewellpod.com/june-jones-love-is-the-difference-twp005/

If Jones wants to be here, he should be a serious candidate, probably a finalist. I can understand wanting to go a different direction, but I'd rather they select from a pool of good candidates... he's a good candidate.

June Jones might be a good candidate - although he does nothing for me. But I want a pool of great candidates of which he would not be one.

I'm just not feeling it. Sorry to say, but I don't think he's ever fully recovered from his auto accident, and I don't like how he quit st SMU. How can we dismiss that and hammer GA for doing the same, albeit later in the season? JJ quit after 2 games. Then there's the whole ASU hiring/non-hiring fiasco. Too many things.

Grumpy pretty much explained why he left and I believe him. Sounds like boosters running amok. Whether that justifies quitting or not, the whole story would need to be known.

I'm not familiar with the ASU thing, I'll have to read up. Edit: After reading up, I'd have to say it was weird on ASU'S part. Sounds like a reaction to their Facebook page and how unpopular the choice was.

there is just no reason to hire June Jones. If he wants to be hawaii 5 oh recruiter guy for the beavs than maybe apply for that position later.

I would imagine he was appraoched due to Jason Phillips being on staff and who worked with him at SMU. If he had concerns about the SMU exit or personal issues, I doubt he would even be in the conversation. I simply enjoyed the podcast and personally believe him to be a strong candidate to fix this dumpster fire.

The President of the JJ fan club? That was WAY too over the top. His kid played for Jones, he knows what went on at SMU, Jones' leaving ended the prospect of playing time for this kid, yet he still thinks very highly of Jones. That says a lot more to me than a bunch of speculations by us internet sport fans. Everything I heard about Jones while I was living in Hawaii was about a man who handled himself with class, even as he left for SMU. I'm not saying Jones is our only choice, I'm saying he'd be a good one. What amazed me, listening to the podcast that was linked, is just how positive a guy Jones is (or at least portrays himself to be). From how our current kids are accepting coach Hall, that could be a very important piece in the hiring right now.

He turned around SMU in two. He just turned around a bad CFL team in 2 games. If you want to see OSU do well in the near term, he may be our best option.

June Jones managed to find a way to make Hawaii competitive despite having practically nothing to work with, and nobody has duplicated his success at Hawaii before or since.
