if we want to start winning next season! Along with Tedford, we need to keep this roster in tact and bring in some surprise recruits for '18! If McMaryion joins, great but I doubt he comes back! There aren't a lot of options that we have that can turn this thing around immediately but JT is one of them. Recruiting, IMO will greatly improve. The offense will revolve around Ryan Nall and the QB play will be good! The defense will improve! I honestly think he wants this job! If you look at all of the candidates and are being honest with yourself, he is the best option for immediate improvement. But I think he could be an 8-10 year guy that brings in some great seasons. We'll see. All in Tedford! Go Beavs! Tedford is not going to leave his alma mater for us and to even think Mcmaryion would come back with him you must be crazy. "Tedford is not going to leave his alma mater for us" That's your opinion, not fact. At this point anything is possible! BTW, the mention of McMaryion was a throw in, notice I said, "I doubt he comes back". This implies it's not likely to happen in my opinion. And there is a difference between calling someone crazy and saying their idea is crazy! No need to hurl insults, especially when you don't know me! Go Beavs!

Fresnick wasn't that great before MM started. I think MM had as much to do with the turnaround as Ted did. The argument can be made that Ted made MM a much better QB. Who knows.
Given our pieces next year, Jake, 4/5 OL returning, solid RB's, decent WR's, with isaiah hodgins being a stud, and a great TE, I think Tedford could easily make OSU a 6+ win team in year 1. Our schedule is much better next year, minus the trip to Ohio State.
Tedford wanted the job once. He likes the NW, and will probably be on his last coaching stop. He's a 3-4 year type guy. He can't do any worse than where we're at now, and I think he could actually make things work with the pieces we currently have on the team.

I will tell you one thing though, I have next to zero confidence in our AD at the current moment. But no reason to have undo stress, lets see how this all shakes out.

Hey brother, you know I don’t think Tedford is the right guy, but I appreciate your posts. I noticed he received an automatic 1 year extension to his contract by reaching 7 wins in his first season. I believe he gets an automatic extension for reaching 8 wins from here on out. Not sure if that affects his buyout, do you know? You think he’ll leave with this type of security/automatic extensions? Not trying to argue, legitimately curious on your thoughts.

You mean they weren't that good playing at Alabama and Washington, then 3M came in and they started winning? How generous of you! On the other hand, they did roll Incarnate Word in game one, whatever that is.

Wouldn't be so sure about that. I think a good QB coach could turn Luton into a quality PAC starter and since he only played 4 games this year he'd also be eligible for a medical redshirt so that coach could get 2 years out of him. Honestly, barring a grad transfer who else would start? Assuming they keep the class intact do they add a 3rd QB to the class and get another JUCO guy? Do they go with a true frosh? Does Moran stay back at QB and start? Is Willard ready for the job? I think Luton (if healthy) is probably the most likely starter at this point in time. I think only a grad transfer would change that in my eyes.

Any attempt at some read option non-sense would be about as effective as Philip Rivers running that yesterday... (spoiler, it wasn't)

Contract extensions play zero factor in buyout amounts, unless the buyout amounts are also renegotiated (from already existing contracts). The flat "buyout" amount (in coaching contracts) is only for when the coach elects to exit his contract, altogether. Meaning, if he elects to leave (resigns) his current job (normally for another coaching job, not retirement), that is how much he owes the school he left (normally paid by the school he's exiting to). They normally start at a higher amount and decline over time. Their intent is to make it less likely for the coach to pack it in for a better offer/job elsewhere within a short time frame (especially in the 1st and 2nd year). Especially for a somewhat lateral move. www.fresnobee.com/sports/college/mountain-west/fresno-state/bulldogs-football/article139018773.htmlTedford's current Fresno State contract is huge on incentive bonuses, so he makes bank the more of those incentive goals that he meets (possibly north of $2.45M this year). www.fresnobee.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/marek-warszawski/article139273913.htmlWhen you fire a coach the school's "buyout amount" is whatever remains on his current contract (only offset by what he makes elsewhere, afterwards, if he continues in coaching ... sports media ... etc.). Good information, thanks for sharing. Seems like from a financial perspective, he’s doing well at Fresno St. Unless he REALLY wants back to the P12, I don’t see there being a huge incentive for him to leave after 1 year...

Not trying to argue, legitimately curious on your thoughts. Thanks Rocky and I appreciate your posts and opinions as well, even if we don't agree sometimes . BTW I think bringing up arguments to points and opinions is healthy when done objectively. I like that you keep it objective and about the topic, versus trying make it personal with insults or people that try to railroad others because they think everything they say is right (even though it's just another opinion) and everything else is BS. Anyway, I'll be 100% honest, I don't know much about the buyouts or contract side of things but you do bring up valid points. Will he leave with these stipulations? I'm not sure. I will say this (and this is my opinion, not all facts) judging from the fact that Tedford wanted this job before CGA took over, that leads me to believe that he is interested in getting back into the PAC 12/Power 5 football. Here's what I think would be interesting (because UCLA might come available as well) IF....Tedford did leave Fresno, with all of the contract stuff that has come to light and the fact that there may be other (or at least maybe one other job) coaching jobs open, and came to Oregon State I think that would be a great sign. That would show (in my opinion) that he wants to be in Corvallis in particular. That to me is important. Getting someone who wants to be here. He knows the northwest, can recruit California very well and knows the PAC 12, these are great attributes to me. There are some pretty big "ifs". I really want Tedford but I'm interested in some other candidates too (realistic ones). Norvell is one that is intriguing! I wouldn't mind Baldwin, I am just worried about the quality of assistants he'd be able to get and recruiting. Are there any candidates that you feel that are home run hires (either speculative rumors or other)? Just checking your thoughts. Go Beavs!

Let me qualify my original post by stating that; Tedford, in my opinion, is the only I guy that I would be 100% confident in saying he could immediately improve things here in his first year. That is not to say nobody else could do it. 1) I have followed his career since the Oregon days. 2) He has shown the capability to turn programs around with Cal and Fresno. 3) I personally think his knowledge and experience in season and recruiting, all make him (again in my opinion) a home run! I agree about the AD though! The CGA hire seemed to come out of nowhere! Go Beavs!

Tyner OTOH, might actually have a shot.

Once they interject the word "or" into the mix that opens up the possibility of making a move after the end of each season if I'm reading this correctly.

Give Petras, Moran, Dukart, Willard even Collins the keys instead of Luton. There's a reason Idaho was his only offer and JUCO is trash

That is not how the actual contract provision reads. This is one of the problems with reporters attempting to interpret contractual provisions. (Or statutory authority. Or pretty much anything.) If Jeff Tedford leaves Fresno State prior to the conclusion of the 2019 football season, Fresno State is owed $1,500,000.00.
